We had to order a new gas tank as the one in the car was rusted on the inside... ordered from Pelican Parts and arrived today.

Glad to see this project back on the road to completion. I feel your pain, though.

Spent 200 hours trying to fit GT Racing front and rear bumpers. And the rear was sent back and replaced twice. Bought replacements from MA Shaw and spent 5 hours total on them. Live and learn.

I posted it all in my build thread.

Believe me that the thought of just getting rid of the parts and buying a new set did cross my mind... I got two different qtr panels... different build style... and they did not match... the amount of work that was needed to get the driver side to match was unbelievable...

Once this is done we want to do a long nose (1973 RS)... I will shot myself on the leg before I buy from GT Racing again. Great guy to talk to, do not get me wrong, but the parts just need too much work to make them right.

But first, this car needs to be finished. Then Alejandro is doing my 964... and then the FIAT Spider... AND then the 1973 RS... still looking for a decent priced donor car...

He is fixing the arch around the wheel well.

Also needed to fix the rear bumper as the bumper was not even with the arch of the qtr panel...





I was really fooling myself when I thought that I could do this in my garage... ahh, nothing like an ignorant with initiative, lol

My worst parts were new AIR and difficult to say the least.
I burned though 2 body shops getting mine installed correctly.
If I had a body shop I would pass on the job.
Not a bad idea to let the bodywork sit a few months to cure and shrink before final block sand and paint.

Yeah, that's good advice. Make the shop park it outside in the sun for a couple of weeks, then block it, then park it in the sun again. It's normal for the glues and resins and stuff to bubble a little while curing. You want to make sure it gets all that out of its system before you put paint on it.

I want to finish this car, then do a Factory Five 33 or maybe a Superlite SL-C, though they're kinda pricey.

Looking gorgeous. I met a guy in Steamboat Springs with a lovely RS (clone?) race car that was a metallic blue. I like your flat blue better.

While Alejandro does his magic on the car, I am taking a shot at fixing the dash and recovering it with leather... will see how that goes... Great information from the threads on this...gave me the courage to give it a try.

I've came to believe this is the downside of college. My father, God love him and a true auto enthusiast with beautiful show cars, always drew a line in the sand. A line that he made based on what he "knew" and what was foreign to his knowledge base.

College, especially some fields like engineering and medicine, gives you this feeling that if you can read it in a book, WE CAN DO IT. LMAO It looks great and becoming an impressive machine.

I just keep finding new things to try that I shouldn't because I READ IT ON PELICAN, therefore it must be within reason to be accomplished.

Went and removed the dash. Well, dash and everything else. Took many many photos to remember where all those wires went..yikes!





I really like how that blue looks. Can't wait to see the whole car painted already!!



We also removed the old headliner and took out the sunroof.

Some additional repairs to the dash... some bolts that came apart and some that were missing.



Some cracks that needed filling and sanding...hope to cover one dash today.
