Wayne, I really have not followed the 959 market (cause it is a bit out of my league) and I have no idea what you paid for this vehicle..... But, seeing how the PPI shop was the one quoted in Excellence a while back with a 22K 3.0 rebuild, I would love to know if they gave you an estimate for repairs......
I am guessing the repairs plus the purchase price far out do the price of one in mint condition?? Now I know you are going to do as much of the work yourself, but...... None the less, I would love to be in a position, like yours, where I could justify the purchase of this car. Despite the PPI, given the funds, I would buy it too and do the repairs (as much as I could at least) by myself. Cheers

Wayne
congratulations! What a project to undertake. I love it. Please keep us posted... for most of us the 959 represents "The Supercar". I remember I had a poster of a silver one in the snow on my bedroom wall! Bring it back! Fantastic! |

Congrats Wayne !
who cares about what color it was ? if the car had been in a big accident the ppi would have shown it. I like black better than silver anyway ![]() Looking forward to see what is done on this car and hope to understand the technical side of the 959. Cheers,

Conrgats. On the PPI it stated that the whole car has been repainted. What made them say that?
I remember seeing that car on Wilshire. May you have many miles of smiles in it ![]() Sloane 1979 930 1989 930S Cab 2005 CGT |

All the independent Porsche shops here in SoCal had a good chuckle (ongoing) over that one too.

I do the same with my projects for the benefit of others... I can understand, in the case of a 959, not sharing that info... a lot of looneys out there, but it will be Wayne's call to share or not. Either way it will be great just to follow the restoration of this beauty!!

Great find Wayne.
This may get a little off topic but, were all the articles on the 959 not being legal to drive on the streets in the US and Bill Gates not being able to drive his off his property and US customs confiscating them and keeping them, not true?

I have no desire to know what Wayne paid for his car, but could someone post the 'going rate' for a 959....

Wayne's a pretty smart buyer. My guess is he bought the car for a number that starts with a "1," not with a "2" (and of course not with a "3!")

I'd rather not divulge exact details on the purchase price, although eventually I'm sure they will come out. I will say this, at the time I purchased it, it was (and still is) the least expensive 959 in the world. This is primarily due to the fact that it has these small gremlins which may cost $5K or $50K to fix (who knows, but figuring it out is the most fun!). I like to think that I have an added advantage, working on the car myself, instead of handing it over to someone else. The core car is very good - the engine is "perfect" as were Grant's words after the leakdown. The body shows no signs of any damage or destruction, and the car is very complete, and missing almost nothing. The worst thing to happen to the car seems to be the carelessness of the previous mechanics (more on this later).

Thanks for the info, sorry to divert you guys off topic, and what Wayne paid is none of my business, I was just wondering about ball-park values.

How can ANY shop not have the equipment for a leakdown test? That's the second thing you buy after a 13mm wrench.
