What does 70% tint look like?

Does someone have a picture of your car with CA law 70% window tint? I want to see what this looks like? I'd like to get my car tinted and I'd like to go as dark as possible. I know i can't go darker than 70% on the driver/pass windows and I think going dark on rears and not doing the fronts wouldn't look good so I'm considering 70% all around.

I call one place and they quoted me $350 bucks which i think seems high. He said that the rear window on 911's are hard to do and that most tinting shops don't do it right. I'm guessing this guy is BS'ing me?

I've never heard of 70%.

It's usually 5/20/35 and possibly 50 -from darkest to lightest. 70% would be like nothing there at all.

Price seems very steep to me.

Yeah, unfortunately it's lite but it's California law. I f I barely notice it then I guess it's not worth it and I might just go with dark rears.

Within reason, price is irrelevant with tinting compared to quality of work, IMO. I had my daily driver done all the way around recently by a place in Belmont that came highly recommended, and I'm very happy with the work, so far anyway. PM me if interested. Might be worth a try w/your 911.

Also, put some pillows in your back seat that they can put their knees/feet on to minimize the chance of any damage.

I have 20% all the way around on the 'benz. Looks pretty nice. Doesn't really affect night visibility and it's just dark enough to be "smoked out" without being bling/pimp/gangsta.

Technically illegal, but the whole "no sides" thing looks retarded, IMO. If I get a fix-it ticket, I get a fix-it ticket, get some spare (untinted) glass and swap it in, get PD to sign it off, then put the tinted pieces back in.

Call Tints R Us and talk with Juan. I have had 3 cars window tinted by him and he does a great job. The price was right and he's mobile.

I recommend doing the same percent all the way around (except windshield of course). Looks nice with the same percent on all windows.

Paul,
There is a place in Campbell right near the San Thomas / 880 interchange on East Sunnyoaks Ave. I don't know the name but I talked to the guy and seemed like he really knew what he was talking about.. and had all the different tint levels up/etc.

mine was done at automall tint in fremont. doors are the lightest, sides are a little darker and the rear is darkest. my wife had her beetle done there. sydney did an excellent job on the curved rear glass. excellent quality and good pricing.

Do you remember what kind of tint and what % you used on that Golf? It looks good.

Sdyney uses Suntek or the expensive Huper Optik

the suntech is what I have used on all my cars with no issues...

This is one of my cars that he did and recomended (M3) 30% rear back window, 35% back windows, 50% front windows....

FWIW - over the years I know 4 people who were issued "fix it" tickets for tinted windows in San Diego County - had to rip it off, $$ down the drain.

Personally, my opinion is that reducing visibility with "blacked out" windows is stoopid (kinda ricey also).

I had mine tinted the lightest (as sufficient for UV blockage as the darker tints). Keeps the interior significantly cooler and protected, with negligible reduction in visibility. I took the advice of the guy who did the job and I'm real happy.

Form follows function! (I believe the good Dr. Porsche would have agreed).

Here's "the look" on my car, with the lightest tint (and I won't ever get busted here in SOCAL).

Cheers,

David

Geez, wish I could tell you off the top of my head, but all I remember is it was the lightest tint offered and I suspect that there are a limited number of tint manufacturers that supply all of the tinter guys and I'd bet they are all the same, basically.

It's illegal to tint the windshield at all and isn't really needed anway because windshields (unlike side and rear windows) have UV blockage incorporated as per federal mandate going back many years.

Soooo....What you see are side and back glass tinted, same tint all around. I was amazed at the reduction of heat in the car after sitting in the sun for four hours as compared to before a I had them tinted.

I also think it looks plenty cool to my eye and doesn't attract cops (not that it would matter because I'm within legal parameters).

Cost me about $250 two and a half years ago - find a good tinter; there are flakes out there and it doesn't pay to skimp.

Cheers,

David

For those who like to live on the edge, 35% all the way around, baby! Not too ghetto, but dark enough to anonymously scam on that hot babe at the stoplight next to you!

Done by Auto Image in Belmont. 3M film. Lifetime guarantee. Reviews @ yelp.com and citysearch.com.

jtkkz - that 50% on your M3 already looks light enough. I can't imagine what 70% would look like. How is it at night with 35% out the back? I definitely want the back to be darker. I used to have 20% when I lived in Texas. It was pretty dark at night looking out the back.

I was quoted about $550 to tint my car from a local shop that seems to specialize on Porsches. He mentioned removing the windows to tint. Does this price sound reasonable? The one place in Fremont that someone also suggested quoted about $350, why the big gap?
