1972 oil level sender troubleshooting?
My 72 911E has always had an oil level gauge that pegs to the top when the key is on - tried a couple of different gauges with the same reading. I have the tank out for POR-15ing and to remove the targa bar cover. Any tips for checking to see if the sender is working? I currently have the sender mechanism soaking in solvent to de-gunk...

I believe pegging to the top is a ground issue. Go to the sender and double check the wires that they are not lose or dirty and they are getting a good contact. Bad sender actually will show just the opposite it will peg to the bottom

No, they were not when the unit was removed. Which is why I believe the issue is within the sender assembly, just not sure how to test it out. There were no other apparent grounding or shorting issues with the oil sender wiring at either end.
