Starter problem
Drove car today, got pretty warm for a couple hours (220-ish), stopped once along the way, car started normally. Got home, parked in driveway for a few minutes. Came back out, tried to start. Just got a buzzing noise from center/rear area.
Starter or solenoid Kaput? Thanks Scott |

Sounds like maybe low voltage. First check all of your battery connections, you'd be shocked what a poor connection can do ( at both the battery as well as the main power on the starter)

voltage
OK, Ill check that. All the electrical bits are coming on strong, and are "dimming the usual amount" as a normal start.

I was going to say solenoid, having experienced this with other cars in the past?
Apparantly when warm/hot it effects the solenoid; try it once it cooled down? My 2 cents? |

I had been having intermittent starting problems over the last couple of years in my '66 and was getting worse and worse. I checked all ground and connection point voltage until it we tracked down a voltage drop in the circuit between the ignition switch and starter solenoid.
I ended up wiring a secondary "Start" button and relay directly to the starter as described in a few other threads. Works like a charm. You can see the new button on the dash where the lighter used to be. ![]() Regards,

It started
After cooling down, it started normally. I assume it was a stuck solenoid from the heat.
Will replace at next opportunity. Thanks for all the advice! Scott |
