Some final photos from paint. Car will be headed back to Zuffenhaus shortly to have the rear fender work finalized.

Honest question here (and much respect for the effort and skills on this amazing build!).
I know you've done a ton of custom tweaks for the body of this build, but you've added a full racing/rally cage. So my question is; why would you add that complete of a racing cage to something that's so special (body wise) that it would be tough to justify for a race car? I would have thought you'd put something more along the lines of the cages that RUF puts into their road cars, which add stiffness and safety, but aren't the hardcore designs for actual rally championship battles. Or stick with more stock body mods, which are easier to repair, and take the thing racing. I'm just curious about the cage overkill, and wonder if you're planning to campaign this car in a championship, or just wanted the sickest cage possible for a custom road car. Thanks for sharing this amazing build with us, and thanks for your thoughts on the cage design. Cheers, - Craig_D |

Would appreciate the input from folks that are following this thread regarding the cage/roll bar. In speaking with Keith we are at a good point in the build to change the cage to an original style roll bar without much expense. My question to the pelican community: If this was your build what would you do? |

Less tubes... I feel those take away some of the beauty and great details you guys have worked so hard to implement in this remarkable world-class project. My .02 cents.
Did I say this is a 'remarkable project'??? Congrats! |

But, when we look back at some of the things built and raced in the past, yikes they were sketchy. So, IF the bars they currently have in mind are to proper specs so that you can be strapped in, and have the straps be anchored properly at the correct angles, then I'd go with the more period correct and minimal bar. Thats my number one concern: your ability to walk away after a shunt, and the straps correct installation. THAT is something I'd want to be able to pass an SCCA or PCA inspection. If you have concerns about it folding forward in a crash, etc, there are ways of making door bars that are removable, good for the street, and safer on the track. |
Given the intentions, I'd go period correct roll bar, too

I have that exact fuel pump in my old 911. Unfortunately, while running, idling as I moved other cars in order to get it in the shop to do some maintenance, like replacing fuel lines, one fuel line cracked and...a fire started. (SO close to having them replaced!!!) I emptied 5 fire bottles and a 5 gallon bucket of water in a nearly comical effort to put out a fuel fire fed by gravity, and was lucky to minimize damage. However the fuel lines are gone between the pump and the bulkhead, which leaves me no example of how to replumb. The pump, as you know, has 3 ports, one large (about 10mm) and two others. I surmise the large is the supply from the tank, based on the fact that one of the hard tubes is about 10mm...so thats easy. (Looks like the lowest port in the pic above) So.... that leaves 2 equal ports. One goes to the carbs, the other is, I presume, a regulated pressure relief return to the tank. But which is which? In the pic, I can't tell where they go. Is the output to the carb on the outer part near the silver cap? or the center port? Maybe you (or somebody else ) might know? (And also, feel free to post more stuff, love this thread!) Thanks |
After the initial white paint, the car is back in Monroe at Zuffenhaus for rear fender finalization and fitment. So glad to see the project taking shape.
Thank you everyone for the input about the cage/roll bar. More updates soon! |
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Quick turkey day update, car is back on the celette for final fitment and tweaking of the rear fenders.
