one of my windows recently stoped working, we desmentaled the door and took out the window mechanism, oddly enough we conected the mechanism to d battery when we removed it and the motor was moveing the entire setup both up and down. We then put it back in d door and instoled d window and when it wasent working again then we checked d switches but they seemed to b fine, we removed the window mechanism once more only to find out that it works while it was out of the door. so d obvious question arises what to do now, what else to check. any suggestins are wellcome. is it posible to buy a new window opening mechanism.

Check the fuse.
Check the switch (swap with the other side of the car) Check that power is getting to the switch and that there is a ground Check the continuity of the wire from the switch to the motor Good Luck. Nick. ------------------ _ _ __ _ _ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe nickshu@yahoo.com |

I had this problem last year. If you are getting power to motor (switch, fuse, connection check out ok), and the mechanism is well lubed, then it's probably a tired motor. Time for replacement ($135 for my 87 from Pelican).
I removed and reinstalled my motor 3 times before finally realizing that it was indeed tired. The thing worked fine on the bench, but as soon as it was reinstalled it stopped working. Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe |

I started this same project this weekend but only got as far as stripping the door. (Long story but ended up going away with the wife for the weekend instead!
![]() In any case, the driver's window stopped working after the last rainstorm. Passenger door works fine and the switch swap has everything working the same way. Given the posts here, I'm ordering the motor as I suspect that it is the problem, but would have put everything together if it worked outside the door and just been upset when it still didn't work. ------------------ Steve 88 Targa |

anyone ever thought of installing those one touch up and down switches?
I would like to do this, is there a way to modify the exsisting switches or do I need to find switches from another car and install...so the newer P-cars have them? At least that way I am sticking with genuine Porsche looking switches. Thanks |

My 88 seems to have a similar problem. The driver window worked intermittently then stopped completely. I have removed the panel and found part of the regulator at the bottom of the door. It looks like a 1" rod about the diameter of a pencil with a slot cut in one end. My local Porsche dealer will only replace the whole assembly for about $300-$400 and other stuff needs to be done for that kind of $. I believe Pelican has an article on the replacement of this but I really don't have a place to work on my car (live in apt) so I'm just going to have to live with it.

I'm in the middle of the same project.
I've changed the felt on the drivers side. It now goes up and down about 3 times faster. I pulled the window channel frame out to do mine. And I lubed everything that moves. I'm going to leave well enough alone. Going to change the switches when I put the panel back on. Also clean all the electrical connectors. I just don't want to pull the regulators out. And yes you can buy new ones. Can't remember which catalog they're in. Both manual and electrical. ------------------ Cary Kutter 77 Euro Carrera w/3.2 Rennlist Member PCA Region - Big Sky |

In D end everything checked out d fueses, wires, switches, mechanism, so D only other thing that was left was d motor. I ended up giving d motor to one of my friends who works in a bleck & decker service centar. what he & his coleges did there was; they dismentaled d motor cut of all d wire that was spooled on it and they have respooled it this seems to be a common way to fiks broken power drils. any way d motor seems to spim much faster now, but we havent instoled it yet we are waiting for d weekend. d respooling costed 10 DM which is about $5 and it seems that this will solve the problem. I will let u guys know how it turned out in the end.

Hello
50% cance for the cause is the door wireloom. this thing is bend allways if the door is moved. After several years the chopper gets tired and generate "dead spots" and higher resistance. Mostly the outher sleeve gets torn and some water is allways standing in there speeding up roting. Changing the wire is hard work and requires door removal ( With power locks this is even more work ). So normaly most renew the switches and the motor. Both parts where worn anyhow and so sometimes the unit works several monts again until the wires where rotet more away. Grüsse |
