Who already convert to 993 windshield, please help.

I recently had some rock chips on the front windshield and spread. Now I have to replace it. I am thinking of the 993 windshield for better fitment/shape. Whoever did it, please help to let me know specifically what do I need, and what year. Where do I get it from and how much. I want to know if it worth it to go through my insurance and pay deductible, or I should just take of it.

Not sure of the benefit of 993 glass specifically, but I went with a 964 front windshield AND the 964 seal when I replaced my windshield last year on my '88 Carrera. The benefit of doing so is the aluminum trim delete for a slightly more aero profile.

I just specified glass for a 1990 911 and bought the 964 seal from Pelican. All fit fine. You're probably looking at $400-600 to get the glass installed, but shop around as prices vary widely.

Mark, Did that include the glass embedded antenna. Thanks cause I need a new windshield and was thinking of ditching the antenna and using a satellite radio system.

The windshield I got (sigla brand) has the embedded antenna and tint strip across the top.

A glass shop quoted me $1,3xx include labor. I found that many people in here did it himself. I am searching to see if I can do it myself, and if it worth it.

I looked in PP and seem like there only 2 parts listed, the windshield and the sealing frame.
OEM-96454101100 Windscreen, tinted $647.00
or OEM-96454101101 Windscreen, tinted, upper part: dark green $973.00
and 964-541-225-00-M136 Sealing frame $127.75
Are these all what you were getting, only 2 parts?

PS: I really wonder why our windshield is so expensive? I know there has to be some different (in price) between a camry windshield and P windshield but one is $100 and the other is between $650 to $1,000? Wow...

I'm preparing to engage this repair project soon...want new CLEAR glass with a seal that is freshly tight! Will have to review many threads for info...there are specifics to know about. I'll probably pass it on to the shop to do but I must ensure the best parts (esp. seal) are used....

I'm curious, with the same questions...maybe someone will chime in with a summary.

Also subscribed. We have two cars that we want to do this with. I've searched the threads but it seems that each one ends in an argument and is not really definitive. One side INSISTING it can be done, the other side INSISTING that it doesn't fit right. 964 would be fine with us.

So...

For our two SCs, can it be done with good fit and what parts are needed please?

We do it all the time, there are some differences, but it will fit.

Windshield
body seal
windshield seal
wire for antena (some don't have it)
hole on dashboard corner for antena
antena amplifiers if AM/FM are gonna be use
a glass installer that understand what you are doing with this upgrade, if it is not seal properly it will leak.

I just had my wind screen replaced in my SC. The shop owner has a 79 930 and told me there was no advantage to the later wind screen unless you just want to burn some money. I installed an antena with a booster that goes under the dash and it works great. Window, seal and installation was $282.00. A proper installation includes a application of sealer as well (black nasty looking stuff).

I started out on this path and more had trouble with the 964 W/S in an earlier car than not. So, I abandoned the idea. I started a thread about 964 w/s's last summer if you want to do some reading. It's a few pages long; lots of info. There are some earlier threads on the subject, but mine brought it all up to date.

Yes, the Carrera w/s is expensive with the embedded antenna. I sometimes think the installers charge a % of the cost of the glass because the early one's can be installed for about $75 labor if you get the "deal." $600 is way out of line. I'll do it for half.

I had my wind sheild on my 80 SC replaced, at a local auto glass place. They asked if I wanted OEM, or the aftermarket wind sheild, and I asked him what the difference was. He said, " truthfully, nothing, the aftermarket one is better glass, and not as brittle. That and the fact that the OEM wind sheild is $800, and the aftermarket one is $170. Only problem we will have is not damaging your trim ring. If it was my car I'd put in the aftermarket one."

I told him be careful with the ring, and put in the aftermarket one.
No leaks, and it looks great. If it's not a show car, go aftermarket if you have the choice.

Did a 964 windshield (Sigla w/Antenna) and 964 gasket in my '87 from a very reputable shop who ended up subbing the job out! Fit was "ok" but it leaked from lower corners. Had to squirt a fair amount of 3M windshield adhesive into the seal to stop the leaking. If I was doing it again I would go right for the 993 windshield and cement the entire window in.

Quite interested in the replacement with the 993 glued in windshield for my project car, when the time comes of course....but I really do not want the antenna in the windshield but would rather have the heated windshield option.

They sell them in the UK (there is an outfit there that seems to specialize in heated windshields...can't find the URL at the moment), but was it even an option over here and has anyone ever procured a heated windshield out here in the colonies?

I had to replace my windshield while on vacation this summer. I found a place that is national & has a national warranty. Total cost was $450.00. It is the OEM windshield with antenna and tint strip across the top. The place is Diamond Triumph Glass. The phone number is 800-234-4527. They did a good job.

The windshield is held in with a big gasket. Do NOT let any shop touch it that thinks you need the adhesive sealant. There should not be any glue used at all. The gasket does the job, unless some PO allowed some dummy to use adhesive. This is the before photo. Damn deer.
