Would you drop your engine to do this work?
My list of engine compartment projects is growing.
1.) Replace all A/C hoses and compressor. 2.) Replace cam tower oil line and install clamps on tensioner oil pipes. 3.) Replace sound pad. 4.) Replace fuel line. If you were me would you drop the engine to make these projects much easier or tough it out with the engine installed. Keep in mind I am a newb and have never dropped my engine before. 87 3.2 43k. No way I'd do a partial drop for a sound pad. That's one of the easier jobs.

really? you can do all mine then. how would you get the bottom edge tucked in real nice with the engine in the way? i'd drop it personally. too much crap in the way. then there's the scraping and gluing. not my favorite job.

drop engine
#1 maybe, but since you do the sound pad might as well do it at same time
#2 Yes #3 Yes #4 yes makes job much easier and you can cleane in fromt of the engine and also the engine needs some dusting. How about the fuel line from the tank ofer the steering Rack??? |

I think the point is by the time you futz around trying to put the pad in with the engine in, you could have dropped it, R&R the sound pad and have it back in with less labor time. I've only pulled my engine once, so no expert here, but I did tidy up the sound pad, which wasn't in too bad a shape as long as the engine was out. Oh, throw in the time savings to adjust the valves while you have the engine out. 20 to 30 minutes versus much longer for us amateurs. I didn't really enjoy pulling that engine though. Too weird, it comes out from underneath the car.

With the right tools and some friends that know what they're doing, and engine drop is a 2 hour job.
