Yeh honestly I'm fine thanks guys, its funny because when driving in the wet before and if I've given it too much gas I've felt the wheels slip and the whole back end starts to wobble the car gives you lots of feedback that its losing grip. But this time no warning, just slipped right around, and by the time I tried to react I was already facing the wrong way and heading tree-ward. The manager of the local superstore was outside have a cigarette when it happened and he said from the engine sound he heard, I wasn't even acceleration at the time it slid.

I helped the recovery chap unload the car back at my place, and one thing we discovered is one of the back wheels is locked solid, we had to use his truck to push the car into place. I guess the impact probably did this, but is there any possible chance that this occured beforehand and therefore caused the slide? I don't remember any strange noises or feedback before the accident.

Jon

Jon,

First, I'm very glad you did not get hurt!

I had to read your post twice, hoping you where joking. I'm very sorry to here the car is a loss. I know we Porsche folks can't replace these cars easily as we spend many hours understanding and getting these cars running correctly. I can only image how you must feel, I would be most upset if I lost my car but the most important thing is you did not get hurt.

If it helps I also have spun my last 911 around twice and both times where on wet pavement, Luckly for me I did not hit anything either time. Also in both cases I was not driving all that agressively,I guess 911s just don't like wet pavement.

I hope you find a nice replacement in the near future.

Jon, that is very interesting about one wheel being locked-up. You very well may have a very likely source of the spin-out. I have seen cars that have had a differential self destruct, and lock up either, one or even both wheels. Long ago in my early career, I was a FTO and Accident Scene Investigator. I have seen the results of catastrophic failures in the drive-line, that caused the MVA. I have seen where a differential, transaxle, engine, or a transmission had failed, and it either locked-up both drive wheels or just one drive wheel. In either case, there was nothing but chance, that if this happened, it did not result in an accident. Hopefully you are still feeling OK today. A lot of times, injuries can take some time before they are actually felt, and cause problems. I think you have a very good place to start looking, due to one rear wheel being locked-up, for the cause, and depending on the actual vehicle damage, you should be able to tell if it was the CAUSE or the RESULTS of the accident. I really am sorry about your car, but as long as you are fine, the car CAN be replaced. Good luck!! Tony.

Hi Sal,

It's nice to hear i'm not the only one on here who has spun their car, and like you said, guess they just don't like the wet. Anyhow hope my afm readings will be at least of some use to you, long term I would have liked to of done something similar to yourself with a data logger and wideband o2 sensor to properly calibrate my car. But as for now, here's how the damage looked in the daylight:

Hopefully you were alone in the car! If not, I believe that all, are VERY LUCKY! Trees don't FUCH around, when it comes to vehicles. It truly could have had a much, much worse outcome. Invariably, someone will tell you, that your impact bumpers worked, or some other "funny" statement. I have seen comments like this before, and you probably have seen them also. I know they are not intending to be cruel, or rub salt in an open wound, but the attempt at humor is the only way they can actually approach your mishap. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know. If you decide to repair it, if you need to check here in the U.S., to locate parts, or shipping parts, I will help. Good luck!! Tony.

Jon, I am so sorry to hear about this. I know it's probably small comfort to you, but this makes me sad to hear.
