If you think 911 parts are expensive...

I happened to stumble across this section of the Pelican Parts catalog:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/PartsLookup/HTML/SubCat/GT_USA_KATALOG.htm

Perhaps some of you have seen this. It makes me feel better about the prices I pay for my 911. I just hope that all those mechanics out there don't get any bright ideas now that the 911 prices aren't the highest. This is worse than the gas prices!

Ha!

That's half the price of a 944 water pump... I paid that much for a rebuilt one more than two years ago...

Are these in stock? That would be one heck of an inventory to have to maintain....

hard to argue re. the cost of the "custom" parts... how about $200 for a Poly rib belt to drive the alt or ac pump... these are likely a standardish part from a belt company and would be priced maybe at $20-30 if purchased for a BMW from Pelican. Maybe they are a custom lenght.

My friend works for Pratt and Whitney. She says they have posters up, reminding employees that one small part for a turbofan costs the same as an entire car. The bigger the toys....

The price quoted is missing a ("0"). Its a $4500 water-pump. I don't think the 951 or 944 pump is that much!

It's all relative, if you're dropping $448K for a C-GT, you should be able to piss $15K clutches and $5K water pumps. Nobody cross-shops a 911SC or Carrera 3.2 and a Carrera GT and figures "well gosh darnit, I don't wanna be paying them parts prices, so I'll just get a 911".

That "Humiliation" picture is a bit unfair. More like the all-caps word should be "Intelligence."

Define "point by" for those of us that have not tracked yet.

it's a polite (and safe) way of indicating which side you want a faster car to pass you on and when.

Note the CGT driver's arm out his window. He's giving a point-by, saying in effect "pass me on my right and I'll stay left." It's also polite to back off a bit rather than turning it into a pass-me-if-you-can situation.
