Help to determine value of Chrome Fuchs

Hello,

Please have a look at this thread below and help me with figuring this thing out. I started the thread on the Turbo forum and probably should have put it on this forum from the get-go to get a quicker response.

FWIW- I paid $750 shipped for a pair of 16x9 genuine Fuchs that were chromed. Would have been worth much more it they weren't chromed because of the problems inherent with improperly chromed wheels. Had Al Reed strip the chrome and refinsh them for me. I was lucky since the wheels could be stripped without issue but a lot of chroming damages the wheels and renders them pretty weak.

Great feedback so far. I think by the other thread, it looks like they are real, but chromed. Whoever did the chroming... did a great job and the chrome has to be at least 3 years old (the PO owned the car for 3 years and did not chrome them) done the owner before the last one.

That being said, just want to find a fair price.

You won't likely have as much luck selling them on an enthusiast's forum like this. The chrome kills them for most enthusiasts.

BUT, the good news is that the chrome actually probably HELPS their value to a lot of the "general public."

I'd put them on eBay. I wouldn't be surprised if you got at least $2000 for them, maybe even $2500.

Is there any other applications (bolt pattern & Offset) that these wheels can work on... I mean other brands of vehicles? VW's, Audi's, etc??

Also, any other input on price would be helpful. It would be much easier to sell these on this forum than dealing with EBAY, but if I have to.. then I will.

Vw and audi guys use adapters but there is a market for them. Try listing them on vwvortex and thesamba if you cant find a buyer here

Base on this board and ebay, I have seen between $1,500 to $2,500 for the recent years. I have the same set and putting them for sell lately, without real response yet. On the finish, I think depend on which environment we are in. On this board, for Porsche, look like people don't like chrome. If it's other cars, it will be a different story. I have had many chrome wheels on many car without any problem. In fact, there is advantage for the purpose of keeping clean.

Regarding real or fake, base reading from this board, I think the below logo are the real. I am sure someone can correct me if I am wrong.

If your pictures are showing real wheels then mine are also real. On this other link to the Turbo forum you can see the same markings (just not as clear in the photo's) on my wheels.

Well, maybe I was able to figure that out then. I appreciate your posting. Where have you been posting your wheels for sale... on this site? You would think they would sell relatively quickly unless your price is too high? What are you asking and what are you selling (information about sizes, etc.)?

Yes, I agree. I think yours are real too.
I think I was asking $1,900 and taking offer. Well, doesn't matter if you take offer or not, if someone like them, they will offer you a number.
As I said, and others said, seem like this board is not a good place to get buyers for any chrome wheels. Ebay might be a better place but I think you better wait until I know for sure I have the time to response to questions since you will be commit to a certain number of days for each auction. Also, it might be the time. There were times I saw people jump on to any 16x9 set like they were gold.

I second Ebay. That's the only way you can get top dollar. Put a reserve price somewhere at a point where it would not be painful to give the wheels up While these are "messed up" in the eyes of many enthusiasts, they still will bring good money, as Fuchs are very expensive these days.

Well, it looks like after some entries that I should be able to get between 1,500 - 2,000 for the package. I think that is a pretty fair assumption.

With the tires being almost brand new one would think that they are worth $500 and the wheels (even though chromed) are worth around 1,200.

That would put me at around $1,700 for the set. I think I could live with that.

Thanks for all of your help. I will definitely try to sell in the classified area first and then take them to ebay if needed.

FYI- This has been talked about many times at length about chroming.
If Fuchs are chromed, and then stripped, and the wheels show no signs of damage post stripping-they are just as good as any other Fuchs (AL Reed).
They only loose strength if it was a crappy chrome job and Hydrogen Embrettlement has occured.
Just because a set of fuchs is chromed does not automatically make them weak.
I have been racing on a couple of previously chromed 15x7's for years without any issues.
You have to strip them first to see if there is any HE damage.

These rims are immaculate. I would hate to see them stripped because of how well the chrome job is, but the new owner may do what ever they like once they own them. I think $1,700 is fair.

You should be able to get $1700 quite easily.

Put them in the Classified section with the title "16x7 and 16x9 Genuine Fuchs, with Tires, $1700" and they will be sold in a couple of days. Probably in 1 day.

Doesn't a real Fuchs have a fox's-head logo stamped somewhere?

I hate to show my ignorance as I have already been branded a hopeless impurist, but what IS it with Fuchs? People seem to rever them all out of proportion. It happens that my latest acquisition is wearing a rather nice set of them, so I suppose I should gloat, but at the price you all are talking, SURELY I can find less expensive replacements .
