1977 ROW Turbo look

Did such a model exist? If so, can I assume it did not have the four piston brakes?

Saw a car for sale today on the side of the road. It's definitely a ROW car with Turbo flares and tail. No sign of turbo and had a 5 speed. Regular brakes. Huge wheel spacers. Sign says 1977. 150k km and okay non-original paint.

Other than some paint chips, it's actually a good looking car. Very clean interior. Unfortunately, it looks like UniqueWhips got hold of the sound department...

How big of an abortion is this car?

No factory turbo look in 77. The turbo look showed up in 84 or 85. Do a search for "M491" and you find more than you ever wanted to know.

What color?
I imported an ice green 77 3.0 in the 80's that was turbo look. In Europe, you can take your car back to the factory and have anything you like done to the car including regular maintenance.
My car didn't have big brakes but neither did the 77 turbo's.

The car is Navy blue but it's obviously not original. There is a chip in the paint and primer under. Tan interior. Rear window wiper. Single pipe exhaust. Don't believe there was a sunroof. Did not think at the to check if the flare were steel...

These cars did exist. I knew a guy that had a Continental Orange turbo-look '77 model. It was factory. Very rare.

Porsche didn't offer a turbo look in 1977 as a regular production model. If you had enough money and influence, perhaps they would modify/customize a car for you, along the lines of what became to be known later on as the special wishes program. I'd really like to see such a car and learn its history, as I have never seen such a car.

The one you saw is almost certainly a converted car. 99 times out of 100, a car from Europe that has subsequently been "updated" ends up being pretty bad when you dig deep. Tread very carefully here.

Well, went for another look. Flares are steel. Bumbers are steel including factory bellows. Chin spoiler intact. Rear spoiler is factory turbo look with tall sides, fiberglass, and not a great fit but looks to be original in that rear wiper moter sits outside of steel decklid opening...

Manual windows, no A/C, no sunroof, trombone oil cooler. H4 headlights. Cloth seat inserts look original and interior is actually immaculate other than the rockstar full back seat speaker enclosure with a pair of 12's.

The repaint shows some "holidays" but awesome from 5 feet.

As JR said they weren't regular production cars but special wishes program could have one built, they took a stock car, and tore it apart after it was built reassembling to the customers spec.

Martini or one of their ad agencies had 2 white Martini livery turbo look targas built for sure

Big brakes weren't a part of the program until '78, but there were a lot of factory 3.2ss in C3s running around

If the seller claims it is press him for documentation. The PO of my 911 had an incident w/ snow chains in the alps. He took the opportunity to have the factory update the car to a carrera look. Does anyone here read german?

At some point this thread becomes a 'what is it worth' discussion. So, what is he asking?

$15k. Seems very high yet depending on the mechanicals and history, some how not so bad. A good looking car really.

It is good looking. Seems a bit high if it is the bast@rd child that some people think it is. It is a 2.7 still, is it?

Unless you are stuck on a car of that vintage I would look for a good SC or even mid-80's car at that price.

Talked to the owner...

Imported by 2nd owner in 1985. Receipts for US spec include windshield, head lights and more. A bit hard to understand the conversation, but sounded like the M491 work was already done at that point.

Third owner was a mechanic and rebuilt the motor in 2003. I assume a 2.7 still. Receipts for $7800 in parts. Painted one year ago for $1200. That's way cheap but you'd swear that the windows were out, etc.

Current owner is #4 and a friend of owner #3. He is moving home to Peru, hence the sale... He spent $4700 in wheels/tires (18s with Kuhmos) and $3k on the crazy stereo. I guess all that recent cash will keep his price up for a while.

Says it will need a clutch...

I think I'm going for a closer look for grins.

Maybe it's just the angle of the photo but the contour of those flares does not look standard.....
