Can't get 13/16 socket to come off after spark plug install

Is there a narrow spark plug socket available ? I just replaced my ignition wires , distributor cap and rotor and thought I might as well do the plugs too. I did all the plugs and on the last one , the number one cylinder , I could not get the socket to release. I used a normal 13/16th spark plug socket with an extension and a flex head ratchet . Is there a trick here ? I left the # 1 'till last because it looked like the easiest one to do ...

I have had the same problem before. I had to unscrew the plug to get the socket out and then grind down the OD of the socket to get just a little more clearance. The other thing I do is duct tape the socket to a u-joint and a short extension and I then have a dedicated set up. I am sure there are special tools for this but this is what I have been using for years.

Most standard sockets get jammed up tight against the back of the chain box on the #1 plug, and sometimes the oil cooler on the #6 plug. There are narrow sockets available, or you can just grind down the top of the one you have until it clears. I did that and welded it to a 3" extension, so there is no chance of it falling off of the extension and getting trapped under the valve cover.

If you have it, use the spark plug wrench in the Tool kit Porsche provided with the car. It is perfect for the job.

I am new to porsche and thought that I was completely inept. I'm relieved to know that this a typical problem.

I had duct taped the socket connections ( several times) but that didn't work because of the standard width of the socket . Grinding it is a good idea. I'll try that tomorrow.

I am in the process of trouble shooting a miss fire . After removing all the plugs it looks like the culprit is the # 6 cylinder. It's fould I'm hoping it is an electrical issue.

I recently bought the car and the tool kit was already toast. Does anyone know where to find a factory plug wrench ??

They come up here from time to time or they show up on E-bay.
