It's been months.... Need a hit at the turbo crack pipe... Kenik, where art thou?...

:D

t

kenikh 08-11-2010 11:08 AM

Minor update - I am dropping above said turbo into my Subaru Forester and going with something a little smaller for this car. I have finally come to the realization that I can't rationalize a $20K transmission swap to hold 400HP.

Carrerax 08-11-2010 12:50 PM

Kenik, you are worse than I am when it comes to mission creep etc.. :)

kenikh 08-11-2010 01:09 PM

It's not mission creep, I am simply adjusting my campaign strategy...when the battlefield changes, you adjust your strategy. You may lose a battle, but still fight on to win the war.

Sounds like your ready for a Speed Triple EFI fix.

Personally I think kenik just likes having an eternal pile of parts and a full garage.

What would he do if he couldn't post his latest manications cause the car was actually built?

Remember, he has two, AND he's rodding the subie... So this will be the 'almost there' car. Right K?

:D:D:D

That was the "jolly, candy-like" history eraser button. In this case it would be the jolly, candy-like bank balance eraser button.

Turbo Foresters make nice daily drivers. Not the greatest on gas but they make up for it in many other ways. I wouldn't mind seeing how that turns out for you, though I'd probably have to look for it on another forum.

combatic 08-13-2010 12:56 PM

This thread is spinning out of control when Stimpson J. Cat is brought in as a reference.

Al, when we gonna see that motor your working on fire up?! Those Daytona ITB seem very tasty. But I bet the adaptation, tuning etc is what will get ya...Unless Al is ready share/sell the knowledge to the neophytes ;)

al lkosmal 08-13-2010 04:57 PM

There will be fire

It's coming along. I have it on the test stand. It's getting plumbed, next weekend will be wiring, so still a week or two away from fire up. I'm using Megasquirt as the EFI controller/ECU, so tuning will be by laptop. So far I'll be using an O2 sensor, MAP and throttle position sensor(s) for feedback. Once I get it running decent with the stock ignition, I'll incorporate a Ford EDIS coil system, fired by the Megasquirt.......he said confidently.

How about we do it as a $16k transmission and you cover the car in our stickers?:p

al lkosmal 08-13-2010 06:36 PM

Thanks Mark, Nice to hear from you. I've been attempting to get a nice, relatively low cost ITB/EFI kit together for quite a while now. When a local friend Tony (Wolverine) heard of my project, he volunteered to be the Beta tester. This engine will eventually make it into his IROC clone.

Sorry about the hijack.....but I was kind of invited in.....and then I got carried away.

Hijack is totally fine! I will say that this little project deserves its own thread, thought. VERY cool stuff.

Matt, LOL! Would love one of your trans we will likely still need to talk about a 5 speed gear set for the Forester.

I am fully expecting to see a Subie motor in that "S" before this is all done.

Dave, you were right in regard to a different motor being in this car, but it is still a Porsche. After a lot of soul searching, I came to relaize that I need to simplify my aspirations based on limited time. So the turbo is dead, for the 911 at least. There is a LOT of good news, though.

I have completed the purchase of this motor, which will go in the 'S'. Similar to the original motor planned for this car, it gets the motor out of the way economically from a money and time management perspective. Keep your eyes peeled as there will be a number of top shelf parts that are no longer needed going up for sale soon. See below, as well...

The turbo in this thread is going into my Subaru, but the Subaru motor will STAY in the Subaru. Nothing like a 375 WHP Subaru Forester, right? :D For those who care, the build is here...

So, things move forward and I can begin wrapping up all of the non engine related specifics for my Porsches. I feel...relief.

Stay tuned regarding progress and parts.

Bryan,

Fuel is tuned....running great using the dizzy.... EDIS is now installed and running. Minor clean up, timing and linkage to complete. This will be installed in Tony Otero's IROC over the Turkey day weekend.

Kenik...I'm sidetracking your thread again...but I did start my own thread. Check it out......

I didn't have the throttle linkage hooked up for that video, but the start up and idle (which I had been working on) was so nice, I had to get it on film. Here's an earlier start up, before it was tuned very well, running rich and blowing a bit of smoke on throttle....but there is a throttle blip...... you get the idea.

Kenik, that's pretty cool. . . you may want to consider building this as a 2,3 liter ST motor with custom heads and MFI stacks. . . look at what this guy from Seattle is doing for inspiration. . .

Extreme hardcore head porn!!!

Kenik,

Any updates on project 69er?:)

ZCAT3 01-08-2011 06:11 PM

I used to have a car like this - it was red with RS flares and then I sold it to some crazy guy from Seattle. I wonder what happened to that car....

It gets love every now and again - the new motor is almost ready. :) More to come.

tadd 02-03-2011 12:56 PM

Hey! Is this car ready yet??

Perhaps its actually a p-car version of Tess of the Durbervilles?

Hey Kenik,

Any updates on project 69er? Or Brown? You've been awful quiet lately.:)

kenikh 05-26-2011 09:00 AM

I wish, I wish, I wish...car is sitting idle. Too much work, too much baby prep. Greatest ships have been sunk than mine by similar circumstances, but the show will go on, I promise. I'm just not sure when.

scargo69s 05-26-2011 09:55 AM

Kenik,

Congrats on the baby! You think you have no time now, just wait.:D

Not the first time I've heard that. :)

Hey Kenik - thought I would check in to see if there were any updates. Hope life is good. Nothing wrong with letting the 69S age in the garage - they aren't making anymore last I checked.

As you might imagine, the car's direction has changed a little bit with the recent upward shift of car values. The car is going to be even closer to stock that before, but not dramatically. I'd already planned to go back to narrow body, so that's not changing. What is changing is that I am going to rebuild the original motor closer to stock, as opposed to pushing the envelope.

Progress is being made as this car is finally again my hobby focus. Here are some shots of the ongoing work.:
