I did search... Really... Partial engine drop Qs

I thought a search would pull up lots of info on this, but apparently not.

I keep hearing "partial engine drop" and it sounds sort of obvious. However, can someone more precisely define what constitutes a partial drop? I am intending to put in a new engine sound pad and a partial drop seems to be suggested for a good job.

You basically disconnect fuel lines, electrical connections, shift rod coupler, etc. Then by removing the rear engine mounting bolts, and supporting the engine with a jack, the engine can be lowered (partially dropped.)

Not worth the effort.. always easier to drop the whole engine, not a big deal .. I'm doing it again this weekend by myself

Don't forget to drain your oil and remove the line from the tank.

Thank you for the replies. I had been wondering if there was some "in-between" stage in which only some of the disconnections normally done for a full drop would allow the motor to come down a few inches, but it seems like you must disconnect pretty much everything you would do in a full drop anyway. I did a partial drop to replace the cross brace that the rear mounts bolt into.
I unbolted the mount, unbolted the a/c compressor and belt for about a 4" rear drop.
This gave me enough room to wriggle the cross bar out and put in the new rennspeed ss rsr bar.

All the threads I saw were more involved, such as undoing the shift linkage in the back seat assess hole, but I got by without doing any of that.

Maybe I've been doing it wrong, but when I wa working on my CIS, all I did was undo the shift coupler and the two engine mount bolts. Then, I just let down my jack SLOWLY to make sure nothing got stressed. I didn't have any problems.

To do a nice job replacing the sound pad, you'll want to remove the engine/transmission.
You'll need to clean the area, perhaps touch up the paint and use glue for the new pad.
In other words, you'll need room to do it.
If you only do a partial drop, you'll be cursing a lot and it won't turn out nice.

You may want to wait with this until the engine has to come out for another reason like clutch etc.
