IMO you should preserve it, keeping the its patina; AND most important keep it away from the road winter elements = snow, water, sand & salt |

That sure is nicer than mine when I got it, congratulations. You already have porsche's in the family so you know this but this is what I would do if I just waved in another new to me early 911. Change the oil, drain the gas, bleed the brakes, change the fan belt, replace the clutch cable, put the proper air pressure in tires, get new rotor & cap, new spark plugs and wires, put battery on a maintainer, once it's warm get as much seat time as you can before changing anything. Get a twill driver's cap and enjoy the time warp. The more seat time you get, the more obvious it will be what you want to change. Try to ignore exhaust smell and oil spots on floor.

I spent a couple of hours inspecting the car tonight and removing the underdash AC. Here are some pics
Exhaust valve covers are about the cleanest piece on the motor right now. ![]() Engine bottom looks good if not dirty, no major oil leaks yet ![]() Not sure why but it looks like some of the velocity stacks were replace with black plastics ones.. add those to the list. ![]() Here an odd one... note the two longer bolts on the intake valve cover. Are those correct? ![]() Some shots of the aftermarket AC which I'm working removing. ![]() ![]() |

Man that is a good looking car. Looks like you have a fun project on your hands. The exhaust valve covers sure are clean! and if no one answers the question on the intake valve cover bolts, I will jump back and take a look at mine in the AM.

Made some progress tonight:
Underdash AC is removed. I still have to deal with the wiring, then start thinking about filling the holes. Next up is dealing with the fan etc in the smugglers box. ![]() ![]() ![]() Replaced the clock, I need to get some knee pads, best I found so far is $165 for the right and left from dcauto.com. ![]() Here's a view of 39 years of road rash ![]() |

Looks great, especially considering it's nearly 40 years old. If it were mine, since it's an original numbers-matching specimen, I would only do period correct easily removable mods, things like a prototipo, larger fuchs, SSIs, and a sport muffler. Beautiful car though, my favorite 911s are the 70-71s.

Wonderful car. I am glad you are removing the A/C.
I would make it a nice driver- Porsches are driving machines. Refresh the suspension and brakes, etc. (I would also lighten the car with interior deletes but that is me). Enjoy the resoration and driving.

Here some pics of the A/C removal process. Should be a fun hole to fill in smugglers box. Knee pads came from DCAuto...
Questions: Where is a good place to source sheet metal to fill the hole then smugglers box? Galvanized? ![]() ![]() Looking inside the wheel well I noticed a rectangular piece of sheet metal covering what appear to be louvers into the smugglers box? Is that correct or something that was added? ![]() |

Try okla. foreign for the knee pads you will get them faster and probably cheaper than dcauto.

Those longer studs were part of the support system for the a/c set up , which was engineered in pasadena california as aftermarket package. Ditch it and install shorter studs in the cam towers next time you adjust the valves.
nice car. your metal man will have a lil fun patching holes, but if done properly, no one will know. Thickness is about .045 have fun!
