Angry A thread for the poor bastards to vent about not having "beauties" of our own

I am really pissed with all of these beauties that have been flooding this board...like what is with Jack's 1973 911 on steroids!!! and the recent edition to the stables, Iris...and the pictures of the Cambria event practially floored me....What BEAUTIFUL cars...it looked like a bowl of skittles...no one caring about "proper" factory colors...just the brightest most eye-catching beautiful cars!!!!

And those engines!!!! What the hell is that all about! My 3.0L used to once hold her head high...but now with 935 wanna bees and 3.6L transplants...double plugged monsters...she is embarressed next to all these silicon implant plastic fake augmentive surgery enhanced beauties....Hey at least I can say mine are 100% au natural!

Damn all you with either bottomless resourses...or the type of love that makes you blind for your cars...selling the home, pawning the wedding rings, pawning your kids playstation 2, maxing the cards to create your beauties....

One day...in front of all you on this board I swear...I will amass the resources to mount my own challenge to your creations...I promise to turm my humble SC to the envy of everyone of your garages...you will all want to caress her beautiful midnight blue paint...admire her RUF front valance with yellow fogs...behind there there will be ducting for brake cooling...just pop out the lights at the track...7" fuchs and 9" in the rear (black centers) inlaid caps, MOMO race steering wheel with porsche horn button...grey interior...black RS panels with red pull straps...MOMO aluminum sport shift knob with factory short shift kit...sport seats...3.2L twin-plugged engine two in two out Dansk muffler...one day...one day

At least you have a car.
I sold mine a few weeks ago. :-(

I've been a shadow of my former self ever since.
Im suffering major PWS!

The problem wirh seeing all these cool cars is that im now thinking project car. Nothing short of a full house street legal race car is gonna suffice really. Of course the girl friend doesnt know this yet!

Don't Worry. Be Happy.

At least you love her just the same. Isn't this board really all about people and how we love the hobby? About how we enjoy sharing our achievements as well as our trials and losses?

Cars are all compromises. Out of the box, isn't the 911 the best compromise for most of us? $, performance, handling, style, feel? Dialing it in to the compromise that you want, usually involves a sacrifice in some area. There are very few improvements that don't involve a loss somewhere, even if that is only to your wallet.

Don't you every eyeball a 20 or 30 year old machine that has been used hard, but cared for? I love the patina that only time gives. The older machines with real steel and aluminum! A free revving engine that requires you to open the engine compart so you can view the powerplant while you add a quart of its second favorite nourishment? Older is simpler and more understandable, easier to service.

Don't get me wrong. The stories about the mods and the process of restoration are interesting and the results are exhilarating. But, could the old shoe be more comfortable when you factor in everything? Doesn't more $ usually equal more stress and more to lose reduce the comfort? Is the balance for all of us the same? Can't we appreciate most of the machines and people that cherish them?

Also don't forget: for me, a year of mods has meant approximately 60 total days that I've had the car to drive and enjoy and 300 days with an empty garage. That's like enduring the longest Alaskan winter on record.

And the other key, of course, is taking good pictures. As a former graphic designer and art director, I'm able to make my scrappy old 73 look like a sexy model!

I've sailed all my life and had the opportunity to visit many clubs across North America and around the world. One of my favorite clubs is Richmond YC at Point Richmond CA. When you go through the front door there is a sign hanging in front of you which says it all:

"This club was built for fun"

If there ever was a great slogan for the 911 it would be:

"This car was built for fun".

Forget about not having a "beauty" of your own. I never dreamed of owning a 911, now I have one which is my daily driver. Sure enough I'd like a 930 and if I had one I'm sure I'd like something else. I believe I've even read that Jack wishes he'd gone with turbo flares.

The bottom line is "are you having fun?"

I am.

Although this "baby poop brown" car is no looker, it always runs, starts at 20 below zero, and I don't have nightmares about parking lot dings, or road salt.

There is a certain amount of freedom to be found in driving a beater.

What? We SC owners have some nice cars and I've seen some awesome work done by SC owners on this board. Much as I admire the R Gruppe (and plan to "join" this fall by getting a 911E or S as a project car), I think our cars hold their own - especially the coupes. I sincerely doubt that your car has stopped turning heads on the street, 82SC; am I wrong? The 74-89 models came into their own with the SC - it's the rock upon which the church was built for the modern cars.

And remember that the early cars have an advantage as far as performance mods - they aren't smog-checked anymore.

Bill Krause,
you are actually right. When I sometimes drive an old Corolla I feel strangely relieved. No low end grunt, no handling, bad seating position, but also no worries.

I just had to come in on the one. It don't take much to turn a SC in to a thing of beauty. After all it is already a fine looker as is. This is my 78SC daily driver. Basically a stock SC with a RUF type
front valance with cooler, tail, stock LSD and short shift kit. No sun roof, power windows or seats. The tail I found used for $190.00. The rest came with the car for 12K.

Thumbs up

Hey guys, my car laid in the garage wtih ugly brown paint, almost no interior, bad wheels, all the stuff that I redid was ugly. It took me about ten years to get the think done. I don't have deep pockets just saved for a long time. When you have more time than money either you can do a nice job or get bogged down with details and get nothing done.

I learned something at Cambria! It was the first Porsche event that I have ever been to that was not a "Dxxk" show, mines bigger. Everyone looked at all of the cars and there was no "Ego" it was just folks looking at nice cars and enjoying themselfs. Everyone of us loves his car and they are all equal in our own hearts. There were cars at Cambria the were way cooler than Iris.

Hey, I've only had my p-car for 3 months so I'm still learning...

What does "R Gruppe" refer to? It sounds familiar but I don't know what it is exactly. Seems like it refers to the generation of 911s up to the 2.7 and before the SC??

Jack, now that you bring the imperfections of Black Beauty to our attention I wonder how you could drive such a mis-matched car. Seriously, that link has me rolling. I guess it just goes to substantiate 82SC's point - even cars as blemished with the "imperfections" suffered by Black Beauty are great looking cars. Nice try Jack, but I don't buy it. She's just too good a looker, and mover.

I use my totally standard '75 911S everyday, no matter what weather. It's in good condition and not a mod (apart from front chin spoiler) in sight - but it's fine by me to do what you want to 911, just wanted to emphasize the other side of the coin, the everyday 911!

I hope everyone took my thread with a bit tongue in cheek...I love the cars...I love my car...I have grand hopes for my car...it is just that I wish I had 20K right now for all the mods, paint, and engine work...seeing all of the experiences and ideas will help me refine my ideas when my turn comes about...but the 4 years of payless medical school ahead of my is not too encouraging...nor is the 5 years of sub minimum wage pay during residency....

oh well...but it will happen...even if it takes 50 years!!!
