Longer stud question
I need longer studs (its not funny guys). I have front disassembled but not rear.
A few questions: 1. A good source to purchase 2. How to install in hub ( or should I have shop do it) 3. What must be done to rear to get to hub for installation Thanks TOT

Are you asking how to install the new studs into the hub? The studs can be easily pulled into the hub. Just line up a stud in the hub, put a bunch of washers on it, and screw one of the lug nuts onto it. You'll be amazed at how easily it pulls itself into the hub.

It's a bit of work but doable.
Rear has to be dismantled similar to the front to get to the studs. The rear hub requires more effort because of the large nut which has an enormous torque on it. Edit: Later replies say the rear can be done without removing the hub. ![]() What year/type 911 do you have? I suggest you get a Bentley Repair Manual. Place the hub on a heavy steel base studs facing up, spray a little penetrating oil on the old studs, knock the old studs out by using a 4lb hammer. If you want to save the old studs, use a piece of Alu or brass, hammer away. Install new studs as suggested above.

I have replaced the rears w/o removing the hub. You need to remove the e-brake adjuster and rotate the hub for each stud but you can bang them out one at a time. Replacing them is a bit different than the fronts, which you can just hammer in. I made up a spacer and a washer and used a steel wheel nut and basically sucked it up into place. The word of caution here is that you will need to torque the wheel and retorque after driving a couple miles. Checking rear wheel torque a few times is prudent to ensure the stud is fully in the hub.

DO NOT buy studs at the auto zone, they have longer ones that fit our cars but are junk. i striped out 3 tourqing by hand, napa sells belknap studs, you cant get anything better than that without going to an alll out race stud, wihich cost about 15 bucks apiece.
