clutch disk width

Hi,

I'm going to put new cover on clutch disk - 2.2 engine 901 gearbox.
Maybe somebody knows what is the width of the new one - i.e. one side?

thanks
Marcin

Marcin,

The clutch disc is a 225 mm diameter (same as ’72-’86) and uses a ‘pull-type’ clutch pressure plate but is unique to the '70-'71 2.2. The significant difference is the splines in the clutch disc hub mates with the transmission input shaft of the type 911 (not type 901) transmission. These splines are common to ’71 and all earlier Porsche and even pre-war VW. The clutch actuation parts of the type 911 transmission are necessary for the pull-type clutch.

I don’t understand your question:
Maybe somebody knows what is the width of the new one - i.e. one side?
Are you asking about the thickness of the disc friction material?

Best,
Grady

Sorry for misunderstanding.
I'm asking about thickness of the disc friction material!

Marcin,

Replacing the Porsche clutch disc friction material is not common but is probably possible. There are businesses that specialize in this. Typically, they have the specifications for every clutch ever made in the world. Porsche does not publish those specifications in their normal technical information that I have ever seen. You might find that info on the Sachs site.

Our host sells the new OEM part at a good price.

Best,
Grady

I have the guy doing it in one hour for 30$ but he doesn't know the thickness.
I will check Sachs page.

Marcin,

Be sure he doesn’t remove the spring system between the two friction pieces. If so you will have an incredible ‘judder’ on start-off.

Please post the numbers and your source after you confirm the repair works correctly.
Where are you located?

I assume you have a spring center for the hub and not a rubber center clutch. The rubber is prone to failure. (Yes, there were OEM rubber-center 2.2 clutches.)

Best,
Grady

He doesn't remove the springs and it has a spring center.
I'm located in Poland so pretty away. I have used this specialist before . He made special sport disc for my friend's Alfa Romeo GTV and it was fine.
