Kit to make it possible to access the evaporator box while its in the car?

I read somewhere here that Griffiths made this kit and instructions. But I don't see it on the Griffiths site. Does anyone have their e-mail address?

Also does anyone know if our host offers a similar kit?

I don't know what you need, but the job is not that hard. You can slip the 4 clips off and remove the top. I replaced my fan and put it all back together. It is a challenge to get the clips back on. I ended up using a pair of needle-nose vice grips to get the clips back on.

One of the hardest parts was the little copper tube with the thermistor that measures the temp of the evaporator. Pay attention to the angle it comes out, and make sure it goes back in the same way. Do NOT bend that tube or probe at all.

Two years later when I upgraded to Charlie's system I found he has some neat tricks to make things easier. I replaced the evaporator which meant I had evacuate the system.

I got everything apart okay, it is the reassembly that I want help with. So the point about the temperature probe is a good one; that is the sort of thing that I want help with.

Do Charlie's instructions explain how to use needle-nose vice grips on the clips? Do you just use the grips to grab the top side of the clip then slide it into place?

There are no real instructions I can think of except to spend time getting the clips aligned to the plastic part that the clip goes over. You might practice cussing, sometimes a new phrase or curse makes the clip go into place

When reinstalling the clips, use the needle nose pliers like GH85Carrera suggests. But ALSO hook a wire thru the hole in the clip -- you WILL drop each of them a couple of times before you get them installed. Make sure the wire can be removed after the clip is installed.

Along with cussing, there are pre-procedure voodoo chants that may help.

+1 Yes. You will drop several of them.

Okay, thanks. I've lost two spring clips already so I know the value of the safety line. I expect to use the alignment and cursing ideas liberally though!
