Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
I have two sets of tires & wheels for my 911SC. On my 6 x 16 & 7 x 16 Fuchs, I have mounted Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, which I REALLY like. On my 7 x 16 & 8 x 16 BBS Mahle's, I have Pirelli P7000's with just over 3,000 miles & no sidewall degredation. Both wheel set ups run 205/55/16 Front and 225/50/16 Rear. As luck would have it, I punctured one of the 225/50/16 P7000's & it is no longer safe at speed. And, they are no longer produced

I had them on my M3.
They handle superbly and are great in the rain, but they wear very fast...even compared to other Max performance tires.

I wonder what the folks in the PNW use. I am curious myself, as I will likely be relocating to the coast in the next year or two.

in my opinion, goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 are the best year-round street performance tires for the PNW where you will do more than 70% of your driving in the wet, it's almost as if goodyear made them specifically for this part of the world.
they are soft and do wear quickly though, so i find they need to be replaced every 1.5 to 2.5 years depending on how hard they're abused. since rubber dries out and loses its grip after about 2years anyway, do you really want to run the same tires for 3+years on your performance car? more info here; In need of some tire advice.

Have them on my daily driver 944S2 and love them. Use them all year, including the 10-month rainy season.

F1 GS-D3 = best wet weather tire I've driven on in close to 700,000 miles of driving. Never had them on a 911, but ran them on my Audis and they're spectacular even on a 4400 lb all wheel drive 350hp Audi allroad. My second favorite tire is the Toyo T1R, slightly more compliant ride, a bit less $$, and greater tread life.

I have them and they handle just as good in the rain as dry. Only last about 10k but they are amazing.

I used to have a set that were street tires and wet track tires. They're great, I only used to get 5 or 6K out of the rears, but then again, I didn't care-loved the grip.

I absolutely, positively HATE the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 on my 911.
For a front engined car, they may be great. However, for a rear engined car, I do not believe so. The ass-end feels very "squoogy" for lack of a better term. You'll feel like you're walking around with poo in your shorts. The sidewalls are soft and very flexible. At Autocross, one of the instructors drove the car in 2008 and remarked that he was surprised I could drive it as well as I do. He definately felt it was tire related. However, they aren't a tire that let's go and looses traction suddenly. I'll give it that. But, you'll be lacking confidence when cornering hard, cause it'll always feel "Squoogy"

I have them. For the street they are great. They're quiet, great in the rain and have good grip. As far as track they are too soft in the side walls. These tires were made for the street not the track.

Had them on my A4. Liked them and I agree they were good in the wet, but they were loud tires. You may not notice the noise as much in a 911, particularly if you have exhaust, but I definitely heard them in my A4.

Really?
![]() I don't think anyone here has said they are the best track tire one can buy, or even is recommending them for track use. Most of the comments here laud them for their wet/dry performance. The original question was looking for their applicability as a wet weather tire. Yes, I made the comment that I used mine on the wet track days, and I remember one DE in particular where I was one of 5 cars that didn't spin, out of about 50, so I stand by my statement that they made a good wet track tire.

Thanks Everyone!
I would use the Goodyears for early Spring when I first take her out of storage & for Fall driving. Those are the two wettest times for me. I didn't realize how much of a "Wet" tire the Goodyear's are. While not as continuously wet as my PNW Cousins, when I'm driving thru the central Idaho mountains, the Cascades, the Oregon Coast, I usually encounter some degree of moisture. Tire wear, within reason, is not a concern. I'll try a set. FWIW, I sure did like the Pirelli's. My SC is stored in north Idaho & when I drove south to Boise & back in March, I encountered some light snow; as well as constant rain. The 7000's we very stable, even with temps falling. I would have turned around if I'd had the Fuchs & Direzza's on. Last comment. Last summer I got caught in some thundershowers in the central Idaho mtns while running the Direzza's. While I never spiritedly drove them during the storm, I did increase my cornering loads; ready to catch her at a moments notice, and never had twitch. Weather & rubber were also warm! Thanks again; Richard |
