Temperature control unit behind ashtray - Help

I am hoping that someone can help me...I recently purchased an 86 930 which has an annoying issue...
Behind/under the ashtray, there is a part that has something to do with the temperature control of the cabin, if you reach further back, there is a very small wheel spinning. Mine makes a humming noise like it is out of balance and it's "perfectly annoying".
I ask a mechanic for a fix, he said the only way to fix it would be to buy the whole part...that seems like overkill, any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help that you may provide.

It sounds like a cabin temperature sensor for the Auto A/C, yes?

How much is a new one? As an option, there should be plenty of used ones available. I don't think they're Porsche-specific. Maybe a cross-reference part number check can yield some results.

It must be, the car does have A/C. Stupid question, how would I cross-reference the part with other makes?

I would guess the part is made by either Bosch or Denso. Remove and inspect. Maybe all it needs is some lube. If you research the internet car part sites, you might find some numbers attached to the part name, perhaps other vehicles that use the same part. Ebay ads might help.

Auto wrecking yards have cross-reference publications to make cataloging/inventory easier.

Pretty sure is has nothing to do with the A/C . Its a temp sensor for cars with the auto heater option.

On an '86, there is a small fan that pulls ambient cabin air across the interior temperature sensor for the automatic heating control. That's what you are looking for. If a new one is too much money, try looking for a used one.
