Mostly nice ...excpet its a cab and the "subbox". I wonder if the cab will tear itself apart with the out all the right updates for rear coil overs....

That's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be when I clicked the link. Some of the stuff on the BMW and VW boards is downright goofy.

ya know sometimes i miss having really good tunes in my pcar but i'll be darned if i'd drop i dunno how many thousand $$$ to offset the weight of the equipment with high dollar c/f seats.

I agree it's not bad, but what it really needs is a decibel meter or maybe an RTA in the clock-hole. Then it would be perfect.

To each is own and I have no problem with it. IIRC he's in the audio biz, so installing what he does seems natural.

VW with Porsche Emblems
I thought someone else caught a glimpse of a vehicle I saw here in NoVA. It was an early 90's VW Golf that the owner removed all VW emblems and pasted the Porsche crest everywhere he could possibly screw one on (hood, rear hatch etc) or sticker one in place (hubcaps, grille).
I hope to see it again some day, it provided a good chuckle. Gordo

LOL.
thanks for the compliments! nineohone, Do i know you or are you just a generally bitter and spiteful person?! i'm not allowed to disclose the price i paid for the seats but it wasn't done to offset the weight of the stereo. i was originally going to get FRP seats but when this offer was presented to me, i couldn't pass it up! Having said that, i cannot think of anyone who would pass up the price i paid, given they weren't cheap VW drivers! ![]() As far as me being on a VW site, what can i say, i have lots of friends all over. I have a 300hp Ford Focus as well and am all over the Focus Forums... Oh and I'm not in Car audio, I'm a Tech and work on all sorts of German cars and build lots of P-car race cars. Back ground on this car, My father had a cancer scare a few years ago and with his mortality put into question and perspective he thought he'd try and spend as much time with me as possible. Being that I'm a Tech and love working on cars we bought this car as a Project to work on together and have covered almost the entire car now, except for the motor and trans which we will be doing in the next 2 years. between the 2 of us, the only work that has NOT been done by us at this point is the actual painting of the car and fog light smoothing on the bumper which we had to redo in the end anyways. we disassembled it before paint, put it back together after (still in the midst of actually) and have done all of the fitting and modification required to the body, bumpers and everything else. but i am curious.... what's so rice about it? I'll give you points for the hidden amp but docking points for a second, even larger amp and exposed wiring in the cab. I'm afraid the capacitor is simply inexcusable though.
![]() Yes... I'll admit I am prejudiced against stereo equipment. But you have now solicited opinions so there's mine.

Wow. You're a real asshat, aren't you?
FYI, the guy crews for a Grand Am race team (the one I manage, actually), and we ran the 24 hours of Daytona this year. He's a stand-up guy who's helped me lots on my own race car. As a matter of fact, I spent a few hours tonight at the shop while his new coil-overs went in, and other bits and pieces were finished on the car. It looks really nice, and I can't wait for him to be able to get it out and drive it around with us. Don't see any build threads or contributions from you anywhere... wonder why that is? Let me guess... you're 14 years old and living in your mom's basement, aren't you? Moron. Last edited by jeffgrant; 04-13-2009 at 10:45 PM.. |

Thanks Jeff!
Vreference, ![]() always good to have constructive feedback. i've been thinking about making a cover for the wiring but it's NOT a priority nor is the Cap location at the moment. Moving the amps and Cap to the trunk is an option but again, not a Priority at the moment.... The car needs to be driven and then those changes can be made this winter. ZX3Tuning: I find this a decent build and wish you best of luck with your project. "935-style" rear suspension is far from "rice" in my world. Cab and car stereo stuff is maybe not my cup of tea, but hey...we all have different preferences.
A subtle hint: fitting monoball rear plates requires reinforcement/strengthening of rear shock towers. You might want to weld two triangle 4mm sheet steel pieces on each size of shock tower in order to prevent them from cracking from increased load. OEM setup uses torsion tubes to take most of loads. If you remove torsion bars and let the towers take both spring and damper load, they might crack...especially so on older tubs. Regards,

Looks like he is doing a very nice build.
I am going to be pulling a bunch of old amps and crap out of the SC eventually, so the sound system isn't a priority to me. It looks like a well executed build. Welcome to the forum Zx3! (That is a Z as in Zed.)

Personally I don't see any evidence of rice - no foot high wings making it look like a shopping cart, no NOS or Type R(sole) stickers, the 'turbo' script actually has a snail to back it up, no fake hood vents/scoops, no chromed turn-signals. The rims I could take or leave but they don't look out of place and the roll bar I like. Stereo installation looks pretty subtle as these things go - no neon lights or other non-functional garbage. Doesn't look quite right without the cabriolet top though, is that going back on?

ZX3 - welcome to the board and thanks for sharing some additional info on your build. I'm also glad that a lot of others came to your defense. It made me feel better about myself
