Tomorrow morning I go pick up my first car trailer. It is a 2007 model aluminum 18 foot dual axle with electric brakes on both axles. Hard to find these used so I snagged this when it recently came up on Craigslist. I will tow my 911 or my 914GT clone. Tow vehicle is a 1997 GMC 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive pickup equiped with factory tow package including tranny cooler, heavy duty hitch with a 5.7 litre engine and 3:42 gear ratio. I'm expecting this rig to tow with no issues. One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is you want to make sure you have aprox. a 15-20% safety factor for the trailer and the tow vehicle. So figure the max for both and subtract 15-20% and that should leave a comfortable safety margin. Happy trailering

Sounds like a good set up. What brand trailer did you get?

I don't remember the brand it was a trailer made/sold in North Carolina. It's not a Featherlight or Trailex but I don't care about the brand. I looked it over well and I was very impressed with the way it was made. I can give you an answer and a pic tomorrow

I rented a u-haul car trailer a while back to tow the p-car and the user requirements stated to load the weight 60% forward and 40 aft. I backed the car on and towed with no issues. Are most trailers supposed to be loaded in that fashion? The pics you all show have it front end forward.

Picked up my trailer this morning it towed with no effort empty. It's a 18 foot Forest River trailer. I stopped by the local dump and had her weighed, unhitched from the truck she weighs 1380 pounds. The reflection in the sun hurt my eyes ! I have to get the wiring sorted on my truck because there are some issues but I'm real happy with this trailer. It should be the last one in my lifetime.

Just be sure to find a safe secure place to store it. Trailers are stolen all the time. They are a big target for the thieves.

My back yard is completely fenced in with a locked ( padlock ) front gate. The trailer has a hitch lock with key. That's about the best I can do but your advice is appreciated.
