Question about flag mirror assembly
My passenger side flag mirror was very loose, so I went to tighten it, but it just fell apart.
After complete dissasembly, it appears that that the main bolt holding everything together came out. What I'm not sure of now is if there are enough threads on the bolt to reassemble the mirror. Does it look stripped, or are there normally no threads on the first 1/4" or so? ![]() Also, how do you get the wires out of the electrical connector? This thing is driving me crazy! ![]() Thanks in advance!

The bentley book says you can use a wiring connector removal tool to push wire terminals out of mirror motor harness connector. Looks like any strong rod the right diameter might work by photo. Maybe you just have to compress that spring to get them threads started.

Loose Mirror Tech Article
Just went through that a couple weeks ago. I'll admit that I had to go medieval on the wiring.

GTC, I have a wire disconnector tool if you need. I purchased at Radio Shack, you may want to try them.

If you do not want to remove the wires why not try to use a pair of vise grips or equivalent to lock on to the outside of the bolt head in line with it, all in a straight line. Then use the pliers to push in the bolt and twist to start the threads?
I know there is a slot in the top of the bolt where the wires go through for a screw driver to be used when no wires are present but just thought you may want to try something before pulling wires. Tricky part is gripping it tight enough to hold the screw/ bolt without distorting it. This worked for me once, although you may need someone else to hold head of mirror while you try to attach the base. Gregg

Thanks for the tips on disconnecting the wires. I will try the allen key method mentioned in Thrashers thread, and check radioshack for a tool if that doesn't work.
Can someone tell me if my bolt looks stripped? Now that I think about it, it looks like the first three would be threads are cad plated, so I am thinking think the bolt is OK. Thanks guys,

That wire removal tool stumped my local Radio Shack stores. I could have asked for a flux capacitor and received the same dumb look from Radio Shack. I looked at all the tools they had and did not find anything. I did get one at a tool supply store. I hear that Harley Davidson dealers sell them.

I used a ball point pen cartridge and ground off one side to fit around the wire and slid it down the connector till the pin came out. repeat for the rest of the pins noting where they came from. one cartridge lasts about 5-6 pins so have several on hand.

Theres a multi sided tool that you can buy for less than $10 that has a number of different tools designed to allow you to extract wire pins from their blocks. It's sort of star shaped with a bunch of different implements sticking out it. Looks sort like a squashed swiss army knife. I think its called a GM tool. I was able to get it at a discount tool (Pricess Auto) place that, unfortunatly for you, is only in Canada.
