Camshaft from a 2.4L Engine into a 2.7L Engine

Can someone tell me if a camshaft form a 2.4L engine (piece # 911-105-142-00 & 911-105-141-00) can fit into a 2.7L engine (piece #911-105-144-00 & 911-105-143-00)?

Thanks.

Julien

The cams will fit into the engine but the valves will hit the pistons when you turn the engine over. This assums you have a stock 2.7 with CIS pistons.

If these cams are off a 2.4 CIS engine which they appear to be, they will be fine.

Like many things, - it depends.

The ’73.5 911T CIS cams are 3-bearing (nominal 47 mm).
The ’78 on 911 cams are 4-bearing (49 mm).
The later 2.7 (’76-’77?) Had undocumented 4-bearing cam housings with the 4th bearing oiling hole plugged. I have reason to believe there were 3-bearing housings used with 4- bearing cams (47 mm) – the 4th bearing just ran free. I have never seen a 2.7 with 4-bearing (49 mm) but I wouldn’t be surprised.

So – look at your parts carefully.

Above, the subject is piston-to-valve clearance. Critically important.

Best,
Grady
