can someone help me out with this - porsche in a movie - old movie

this is killing me - maybe it triggers a memory of someone somewhere -

in the late 70s early 80s i remember seeing a movie, and it's killing me remembering the title...
think the basic plot was about some guy having a midlife crisis and having a divorce, and in one sequence it cuts from divorce scene to an amazing helicopter shot sequence where the lead character's roaring along in his newly bought 911, (it was metallic light blue) set against a snow covered landscape with snowdust being thrown up by the amazing car. my memory tells me this was simply awesome!

it was an impact bumper car and i "think" it may have been an early turbo. but i was too young to know. probably started the 911 bug somewhere, but i just cannot remember the title? its just a vague memory, it was an american movie...

....ring any bells?

Paul, if I remember correctly my shop took care of that car. It was a '70 911E, originally Signal Orange. The car was pre-impact bumper, and was painted blue for the film (something about being easier to regulate the color). I took care of that car for its original owner, and then for the guy who owned it in its blue period. It was then painted black, and I lost track of the car. I also don't have notes regarding the movie, but I'll ask a friend who might remember.

Downhill Racer? 1969 Redford. I met Robert Redford in about 79 in Aspen CO. He drove there from his home in Utah in his silver 930.

Maybe:

The Hot Touch W/ Wayne Rogers?

1981 filmed in Canada.

And, by the way, what does the winner of this
trivia contest get?

Paul,

Well, you know what they say about engineers.

"We don't remember everything, but we forget very little".

Actually, we have owned Porsches since the mid 70's.

And, yes, it was one hell of a shot, and as a previous 930 owner,
it was hard to forget, along with, as you wrote, the scenery.

Glad we made your day.

Gerry

Guys,

It is this kind of connection that make this Forum so good. I guess I’ll have to see a copy.

From another (EDIT retired) engineer,
Grady

Frank,

Can you find me a copy of that book – please. Used is OK if out of print.

Guys,
Frank http://www.toadhallbook.com/ is the guy to go to for the best Porsche books. He can find almost anything.

Besides, he is a terrific author, editor and 40+ year Porsche owner and friend. One of the Porsche 'Good Guys'.

Best,
Grady

Grady,

If no luck in your area try:

www.powells.com

We have been in their Portland OR. book store
and it is more like a warehouse than a store.

Good luck.

Hey guys, I'm trying to remember a movie too . It had a yellow Porsche in it and rhythmic steel drum beats. The main characters daughter had been stolen or something. He was a "Commando" I think . Great movie!

And here are a few more:

The red Targa in "Shattered" (Tom Beringer) 1991.

McQueen's yellow 356 in "Bullitt" 1968. (Owned by one of our former neighbors).

The name of the movie was "commando" with the govenator in it early car with solid tail on it if you look close when he drives away after the car is on its side there is no damage amazing how 911's heal themselves.
