You might try the later knobs, as used in the mid-'80's cars. They measure about 1 1/8" in diameter.

The rolling chicane

First session of the day was a little tense. New paint, first DE in a 911, never driven hard with these tires before, short runoff areas, menacing tire walls. Car and driver were working much better together in the afternoon.

Super great looking car.
Many unique features on this baby.
Love the color, your houndstooth interior, RSR finished Fuchs and muffler.

All in all, you should be pretty proud of where you are at this time.
Good luck getting the last of your little tweeks finished up.

Hi Kiwiockie

I love the final pix of your car! I just wish mine looked half as sorted

I hope this isn't too far O/T for your thread, but here's a photo of how mine stands at the moment. I've got a load of mechanical stuff done, inc Bilstein HD/Sprint dampers, SSIs, LSD, WEVO shifter plus fitting my home-grown SCRS-ish front and RSR rear bumpers.

Still loads to do, including I hope sorting some bodywork and paint over the winter

I took these en-route to check out a pre-74 Classic Porsche trackday at Goodwood which is close by. The day turned out great as I got to do my first track time when it got quiet towards the end. This was just after a torrential downpour, but it felt great to finally drive this famous track in a 911. I only did a few laps as it was red-flagged, which i took as a cue to leave before my ambition outgrew my talent

Wow that is great progress. Don't be so hard on yourself. Your car looks great and ought to drive pretty well with all the cool stuff on the underside! How did you make the bumpers? They look very professional. Check out Dueller's thread where he is aiming for a similar look. You may be able to give him some tips. BTW the 964 smile wraps further around the front fenders and has a narrower front band than the SC one. I have seen this done on a car with an IROC front bumper and it finished it off well. You are so lucky to have Goodwood close by. I am determined to make it to the Festival of Speed some year.

Beautiful job! I really like what you did with the front bumpers too. I would have done exactly the same but I'm installing a front mounted oil cooler so I had to go with the RS style bumpers.

Fantastic looking car... you have allot to be proud of!

Thanks you're very kind, but there are good reasons I didn't take the pix any closer. It's definitely a long-term project!

The front bumper started as a deep, flat air-dam found on eBay and a damaged SC front valance in GRP from an old race car.

A bit of work with the grinder gave me this:

I then bonded it all together, faired it and cut in some brake ducts:

This winter I'm considering taking a mould off it as it could be a lot lighter without all the secondary bonding and filler, plus I'm covered it a prang it.

Given the choice, I'd choose the Goodwood Revival every time over the FoS. Don't mistake it for a museum display, this is tough racing with some very good drivers, recreating the classic racing of the 50s&60s. The whole circuit is as close as possible to period look (with a few concessions current safety standards), and it's a quick track. With a paddock pass you see all the cars up close and sometimes meet the star drivers.
A friend of mine raced last years Sebring Tribute

The FoS is well worth a visit but for me it's a victim of its own success and is so busy over the weekend that it's hard to see much of it. I'd aim for Friday

Thanks. I wanted a different look to the usual IROC/RS style so it's my (narrow-bodied) tribute to the SCRS, which were rallying when I first became interested in 911s. In fact many of the mechanical upgrades were done by Tuthills, who did a lot of preparation work on the Rothmans SCRSs in the 80s
