Finally, a Dyno for Android Phones not iPhone
Breaking News!
For all you Android Phone users, they finally put out a Dyno for the myTouch or Android Phones. It's a free application and appears to be very similar to the iPhone application. It has allot of features I can't seem to figure out when you set up your vehicle but it looks promising. You will see when you try to set up your baby asking for such things as: "Pitch Characteristics in */G's" "Roll Characteristics in */G's" "Drive Train Loss in %'s" "Rolling Resistance" "Aerodynamic Drag CDxArea" "minimum speed at 2000 RPMs but which gear" Any areonautic engineers here? ![]() On your phone under market, search for aDyno.net or visit their site. Will be trying it out soon just need to figure out how to set it up so it will be more accurate.

sweet, I didn't see this when you first posted. Thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting for them to come out with a dyno app.

I'll give it a try.
I'm an aerospace eng, working at a large contractor, so I'll give it a shot. Without looking at the site (can't on this network), I can only guess.
"Pitch Characteristics in */G's" You'll want to set the Android up in an X/Y plane. Meaning set the phone up so that it is straight up and down, and not cocked. This will measure your pitch accel, (there is an accelerometer in the phone). It will measure how much you car digs in, or lightens when you accel or decel. The pushed back into your seat feel. "Roll Characteristics in */G's" This is lateral acceleration. The acceleration you feel sideways, as you are pushed in the door. This will tell you how much grip you have in the corners. "Drive Train Loss in %'s" Not sure how they measure this, but if you put in spec numbers for your powerplant, it should have acceleration curves that come with that. Probably measures expected accel vs actual. "Rolling Resistance" Again not sure how this is measure, but I would assume that this has to do with you stiffness of suspension. How resistant the car is to roll, and you spring force the car uses to right itself. "Aerodynamic Drag CDxArea" This one I would think is hard to measure, the area is the surface area of the car that sees free stream air time your coffecient of drag. You would have to know what the coffecient of drag is from a wind tunnel and multiply that by the surface area of the car that has attached air flow blowing over it. The reason we have whale tails is to re-attach the air flow that seperated off the roof line at high speed. That re-attachment force the back of the car down, giving more traction. This one would be hard to measure unles you can find some aero data on the car. "minimum speed at 2000 RPMs but which gear" This again is probably from some RPM vs accel curves. Not sure where you would get them from. Mr. Adams from Jwest may correct me on some of these points, but that's the long and short of it.

I downloaded it a few days ago for my droid but haven't had the opportunity to try it from a standstill. Sometimes it doesn't log my results, which is a little irritating. Oh, and it freezes sometimes...
But it's pretty good for a free app. Regarding the settings mentioned, pitching and rolling of the car on it's suspension will affect the phone's accelerometer readings, so these exist to try to correct the results. Drag shouldn't be a major factor unless you're going pretty fast. Rolling resistance (drag from tires) is a little tough to figure.

(including my weight, no I will not tell) ![]() Half Tank Results: 220BHP with SW Chip and M&K Cat Bypass Hey Steve, need to confirm on Dyno ![]() Note: Need to figure out front area in sq meters, I used set 3.4 sq meters.

I think your frontal area is off. Frontal area for a B-series (I think that's a '69) is 1.71m^2. So I would think that 2.0 or so would be safe for an '85.

Any Android dyno app users out there with updated reviews?
I want to use one but I'm sure such which one to pick. This thread was from almost a year ago so I imagine there may be some new news on the Android dyno app front.

I have found the following car related Android apps:
Trackmaster - captures track/autoX sessions, can review on phone or download a Goggle Earth file. Dynomaster Camber Guage Corner Weights The above are by the same developer and I think they are all very good. Other apps include: aDyno TireSize Torque-Uses ODB w/ PLX Kiwi Bluetooth interface (or eBay clones) to read/log engine data SpeedView GPS Speedo SpeedHUD aStopwatch Not specifically car related... but will feed the inner geek : Tricorder MetalDetector HomePipe - Provides direct access to any files on your home computer via the phones 3G or WiFi connection These all run on my HTC Incredible phone (Android 2.1) FYI - I have found the AppBrain site to be a great website for finding apps, I think it is much better than the basic App Market site ( where you can not even do a search).

aDyno has been updated continually, and has gotten quite a bit better since this thread started. It's free, so there's no reason not to try it out...

Ben- I am pretty sure the Delve is not an Android phone, so you can not run the apps on it.

Oh, great info! Thanks!
I have the HTC Incredible (which I love). I have actual dyno data for my car so I will compare and see how accurate these apps really are. I didn't know about all the other cool cars apps, so thanks Andrew for sharing. ~Cary
