Please help a newbie..Targa won't start

OK so I am finally getting to work on a project. I have an 85 Targa that was initially bought to donate it's drive train for another project. That didn't pain out.

OK so here is my problem. It's an 85 Targa... The engine cranks over real strong but it will not start. Normally that would be an easy fix. Check to make sure your getting fuel and spark etc...
Here is the problem... I am used to american cars and not quite sure where everything is... I didn't hear the fuel pump which I assume I should hear kick on...

So my question is... what are common problems that would create this.. like fuses relays and such.. and how or where to look? Factory alarm?

Any help would be great.

Check your DME relay. It's a know source of trouble as you describe. The unit is the size of a standard square relay, only twice as tall.
We always carry a spare just in case.

Welcome to the board and good luck!

Oops! Forgot to mention it's under the drver's seat right next to your DME control unit (big square silver box).

you should hear the fuel pump running with the key in position 2. Some will claim its not supposed to, but it always does, at least on the SCs.

Id check the fuses and make sure you have none blown. located under the front hood.

good luck

It doesn't on a Carrera.

The relay switch is between the silver box in the centre of your picture( the main control) and the bell like metal dome in from of that. As you can see from the pic you posted its missing. The connector is connected to nothing

The large silver box is the DME control module and the metallic circle is the altitiude sensor. Whats missing between is the main fuel pump relay. Thats what the plug is for.

DME relays are the weak links on the 3.2. Always carry a known good one for a spare.

Congrats, the cheap and easy fixes are always the best.

Well, now you discovered the Ghetto kill switch. Remove relay and car will not be stolen.

Unfortunately can be towed though.

Glad it was an easy fix.
