I need a simple measurement...

If someone has recently done a complete (engine and trannie) drop of an engine and 901/911 trannie, and it is sitting on the floor in your garage, could you please measure the distance from the front edge of the engine mount (not the engine tin) to the center of the axle flange on the side of the trannie. Measure directly back over the engine and trannie to the centerline of the axle flanges. It is obvoiusly harder to do with the engine and trannie in the car, and far less precise.

Thank you

Speedo

Lars,

EXACTLY what are you trying to do?

All 901/911/914-6 engine transmission combinations from prototype through ‘71 have the same dimension there. I can measure it tomorrow.

That said, starting in ’72, the 915 moved the axle centerline toward the engine by 10 mm. This was in the transmission only, the engine dimensions remained the same.

Concurrent with the 915 change are several subtle but important other changes. The ‘thinner-but-lighter’ 108 mm CV joints allow less angularity than the ’69-’71 ‘thick’ version.

Depending on the conversion, there is a change in the 911 chassis for rear shock clearance between ’71 and ’72 that may need to be addressed.

Of course there are all the other ‘obvious’ differences.

Needless to say, this is all LWB subtleties. SWB is a whole another world. 914 is easy because of the very long axles. The 930 Turbo is the other extreme because of the very short axles.

Talk to me tomorrow.

Best,
Grady

spyder measurements

Grady,
Trying to figure out how much room I will need to create...and how far aft the wheel arch will move. That measurement is critical. The larger it is the more difficult it becomes...I can't use a 915, I am stuck with the 914 trannie for obvious reasons. You were right about the spyder in this Pano...much improved.

Talk tomorrow.
