I would advise against having your flywheel resurfaced. Porsche recommends replace vs resurface although some folks here have had success with resurfacing - I am not one of those folks and will be dropping my engine again shortly to replace the flywheel to eliminate an annoying chatter problem. I don't know if it was a bad resurface job, a warped flywheel or an out of balance condition but I won't make this mistake again. Strongly recommend replacing, but if you choose to resurface, have it done by someone good & have it balanced too.

Good point.
It is my understanding that it can only be done once and after that there isn't enough meat left to do it again. He has access to a number of good shops in Vancouver like Weissach, Scan or Targa and they can steer him in the right direction.

It's back in!
Well, I just got my engine back in my car. I did it myself with three jacks, my Bentley bible and lots of patiences. I ended up having to pull the axle shafts as well and replace all four boots and the two inner CV joints. (Thanks Pelican for the parts) What a bloody messy job that is. I replaced the oil related seals on the top of the engine, the valve cover gaskets, changed the plugs, the rear main seal and a full clutch job. I brought my transmission to John Walker in Seattle and had him freshen it up. What a great guy and so easy to talk with. He gave me lots of his time and answered just about every question I could think of. I got hosed by Canada Customs coming back across the border with my trans but what the hell, that is their job. The best part of the whole thing was listening to that engine fire right up on the first turn of the key! Music, absolute music to my ears. I have no insurance on the car so I could only take it up and down my lane but it shifted nice and smooth and no chatter on the clutch. I think I'm going to have to put some temporary insurance on the car when the sun comes out and take this thing for a howl. Can't wait to hear that engine up through the gears. Thanks to everyone on the board that posted and answered my questions during the process.

Nice! You had to pay tax on the repair bill? I didn't know they could nail you for that. Jeeze...

If the Canada Customs guys are in a bad mood they will charge you GST AND PST on the estimated worth of the trans not just the repair costs.
PS you should know the the weather here is about 60 plus degrees, we don't remember what sleet is. Lorne M. Ps Gunter, Targa has gone under a couple of month ago

How much did Walker charge to do your transmission and what did he replace? Mine shifts descent, but was thinking about doing the same.

Call John and he'll tell you.
