I wonder if that's a hot rod motor in this VW van
I believe they might have hot rodded this one a bit. its hard to see, but if you look really close you notice little clues they've done a little work to it, ![]()

This one was nice, I can't remember his name but I talked to him a coupe times at the Phoenix Club meet. An early air cooled car anyway. Porsche seats, Porsche guages, I think four wheel disk brakes. Clean car and he was always doing more to it.

That belongs to Panamal Mike, , local guy, he built that years ago, last time I talked to him, he was building a mid-engined single Cab. The Fabcar built Blue bus is incredible in person...

the best idea for any old bus will be to transplant an electric drive unit into one; or to do it sooner, maybe a hybrid drive unit
the Splitties are really low speed vehicles, due to the brakes and suspension setups - an electric motor would give you real nice torque for that use a Bay is (or can be made) somewhat safe up to maybe 75 mph; while the Vanagons are ok at 85 if you want to have a Splittie for high speed use, you should probably take care of the front end crashability, suspension and brakes... in other words, cut the unit body off and put it on an entirely new platform with some additional work for that front end crash... no small task |

Wheelerdealer Barndoor...currently the fastest Barndoor on the planet.
(You could buy a couple of clean 911's for the money it would take to buy a stock turnkey Barndoor.... put simply, they are skyrocketing in desirability & value insanely fast. OG part prices? ... lol) ![]() ^ VW 4 cylinder Powered, no Turbo, no Nitrous, 12.65 1/4 mile (911 style shroud) |

99% of all the Type 2's featured in this thread are genuine 911 Porsche based Buses.
911 Engines 911 Suspensions 911 Brakes 911 Transmissions 911 Wheels 911 Turbos Plus a 5 STAR Excellent rating voted by all of you. YET..the moderator(s) refuse to give the proper credit due and have banished this thread to the crappy Off Topic Discussion section of the site....next to topics such as "Hot Tramps Thread" and "My Son Came out of the Closet Thread." RIDICULOUS Please PM moderator(s) if you disagree with this decision and want it moved back to the 911 portion of the site where it originated and properly belongs. . |

Thread moved back to the 911 forum at the request of the original poster. If it veers off away from Porsche 911 discussion any further, it goes back to OT.

Thought I'd post a few up date photos. Mine is the second from the top with, at that time a 2.4E motor & stock 5 speed.
Currently running a 3.2, 46 pmo's, crankfire ignition, SSI's, custom exhaust. '86 915 w/7:31and early 5th, Wevo shifter & coupler. Brakes are Wilwood callipers & disk brakes all the way around. Suspension is Albatross front beam, 22mm front sway bar, custom Koni double adjustable shocks. Modified 912 hub to fit bus spindle. Rear is 27mm torsion bar, 22mm custom sway bar, Wevo single adjustable shocks, also ran Smart Racing RSR re-valved shocks, and adjustable spring plates. Wheels are 7x16 Fuchs fronts, 8x17 3pc. Fuchs center rears. Custom dash w/911 gauges, Scheel bucket seats, and more. I'd like to hear more about other people's suspension & brake set ups. ![]() ![]()
