Tachometer Wire Routing?

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the correct routing for the wire that runs from the tachometer to the engine bay. When I took the interior of my car apart I found the wire just ran down from under the dash and just sat on the floor of the car under the carpet and went up and through a hole in the firewall. I'm sure this isn't what Porsche intended, but I may be wrong.

Any advise would be most appreciated.

Adam

Just read your thread. I can't look right now, but I'll take a look at my 73's tomorrow and get back to you.

Hmm, my 69 does the same thing. I figured it couldn't be original wiring, but maybe I was wrong?

Adam,

There are two tunnels on our '86 which run underneath the floor.

One for the clutch cable & throttle linkage, the other for wiring.

You may expose the tunnels by lifting up the carpet at the centerline of the car, in front of the rear seats and open up the metal door which is attached by four? screws.

This I think is where the wiring should be.

Sorry, no pics.

Good luck,

Gerry

Heres a couple of pics. The first is through the tach opening. The second is the trunk area. The black and purple wire is the tach wire which is in the factory taped bundle behind the black and blue wire. It then goes through the grommet in the firewall under the dash area on its way to the engine compartment. Sorry, the rest would require pulling the carpet to show.
