mine are 205 60's..but then again , my car is on stilts!

I do not have a close up shot handy of the wheels Cam. I have yet to get any books , but undertsand that lowering the rear is not an easy task right?

I guess the idea would be to lower the rear in conjunction with re newing or weltmeister-ing/ neatrixing the rear swing arm bushes, thus getting max benefit from both mods.
I had the pleasure of re-indexing the torsion bars on a VW 'split' bus in London a few years ago. The owner had already lowered it to what he thought was the limit...plus it was on hydraulics --yeeeehaaaa---.
I managed to convince him that in New Zealand we go FAR lower (a little white lie), and we ended up getting it to sit on its muffler in the end when at the lowest point of the hydraulic range.
That wasn't too hard from memory. A couple of inches in a 911? No-worries, Mate!

Very nice car, Cam! Black is a great color for these narrow bodied cars. I would also keep it narrow, as long as you're not competing in it. As you say, the 3.0RS engine will overpower your current tires, but if can justify a pair of 911R 7x15 rear Fuchs ($2K), you can fit a 225 tire with no problem, and the wheels will match your front deep sixes. I know it's alot of money, but you will never lose money on the R wheels - they are a good investment and sell fast.

Can I pat myself on the back here? Just a wee bit? Just a tad? Looking for a then "new" 911, I took one look at the '74's. Then I started looking for my very first used Porsche. Until the too rich for my finances 993 came out, I had zero interest for a new Porsche. Now that the 996 has replaced the 993? I have zero interest in new Porsches. Sure, it's only a visual thing...but so what? If somebody is going to spend high 5 figures for a car..only a car, shouldn't the aesthetics matter as much as the performance? Just a thought...but to me, the purity of the line means a lot.

pwd72s,

I agree totally. Hey, a last generation Supra Turbo is faster than many (most?) of the cars on this list, certainly faster than mine, but who cares? The 911 has soul, it feels special and unique, it looks like nothing else in the world. I'm so sad that Porsche moved more mainstream in the design of the 911, they are already talking about replacing it! (according to R&T, at least).

Nice car Cameron.
One of my '69's is 23 inches from the fender lips to the ground. I have two sets of wheels for this car. 16x7's and 15x6's ( old style ) This car has original paint and interior. It is Bahama yellow with black interior. The engine is a 2.7 made from a 2.4 case with all the goodies to make it fast and some really short gears. 0-60 5 seconds flat. And granny shifting second gear.

BTW, I might be going to the Americas Cup so if you or Matt need/want anything from the States and will fit in a suitcase let me know. Even if I don't make it down there I can have Paul Cayard take it for me. He will be flying from San Francisco. And you would only have to make it over to the Oracle One camp. The Oracle One camp is the old America One camp.

Also ( if I don't make it down there ) Tom Whidden ( Dennis Conners Tactican ) is a big Porsche freak and really digs the early 911's. I could set up a meet if you like and you can show him your car and have a beer together.

Two oh, funny, I used to work for Tom Whidden, back when he was part owner of Sobstad. I was just a worker stiff, but I've always enjoyed watching him in the Cup. What part of the effort do you do?

Anyway, thanks for the compliment, although the car is still a little rough in person (its definitely a five-pacer, good from about 10'-15', just don't get too close). Here's a couple shots, appropriately blurred by jpeg for your protection:

Turbo Dave, Isn't Tom a fun guy. I met him in 1980 thru Dennis Conner and whenever he visits his sail making plant in Minden, Nevada he makes his way over to San Francisco for laughs, friends and good food.
What do I do for the effort? I did help raise money. Nothing now. Dennis is with NY and America One was sold to Larry Ellison and Larry wants to skipper the boat himself. Paul was going to skipper but now "Larry" wants to be the BIG star. He's not happy just writing checks and playing second fiddle to Paul. Too bad.

Thanks for the pics of your car. It looks MARVELOUS!

That's good, I'm sure Larry will drive the boat far better than Paul Cayard. I mean, he can make tons of money, he must be able to do anything!

Thanks again, do you have any pic's of your car? I'm in early 911 photo collection phase, while planning on what to do with my baby.

Thanks,

Turbo Dave, My daughter has my camera. But I'm going to buy a new one this week. One of those Sony Mavicas with a floppy disc.

This weekend I will post a pic.

Two Oh, you might want to try one before using it- we have one here at the office, and the photo quality on ours is terrible. We also have a Sony memory stick camera, which is far better. I imagine the quality on the new Mavica's is far better, just a warning...

Hey Two Oh, that's a great offer!
Both Cam and myself live about 5 mins drive from the Cup Village in Auckland City and would make every effort to meet fellow 911 nuts and show them around our city. No need to rent a taxi either!
As it happens, the Institute I work for runs one of the Met stations in the Hauraki Gulf (and scandalously sold the info to America 1 last time rather than Team NZ), so we have a reasonable Cup exposure too- but it would be fantastic to meet some of the Oracle camp!
Wow. Cheers yet again to Pelican

I'm with Matt on this one - would be honoured to meet up and show you (and Tom?) how we look after old Porsches in NZ.

Are heat exchangers suitcase sized??? Kidding, of course.

Would be happy to meet up with Tom too if you can't make it. Hey, now here is an idea - he drives my car, I drive his, uh, boat. I guess not.

And the offer extends to anyone who wings there way to NZ. Come visit - NZ needs your tourist money.

Americas Cup time - by then I should have made some real progress on the car - the 3.0 engine, 915 tranny, nice Fuchs..... but still narrow flares.

I like my girls with narrow hips. And a 'T' badge

Thanks again to all for kind words. I will look out for some 911R Fuchs - like gold but more expensive...

Oh, and I just reread and both Turbo Dave and Two Oh have yellow cars. Coincidentally if the '69 ever gets repainting it will be yellow or blutorange (it was once a purple race car so no qualms on colour change) and the '75 is (beautifully repainted, just not reassembled) black and chrome too.
