Dangerous Porsche Driver
After reading posts about how other drivers react to the sight of a P-Car on the road, I have to relate this encounter. I was tooling home in the family truckster yesterday and observed a Boxter behaving rather badly on the highway. It was rush hour, the road was very crowded, and here comes Boxter Boy Racer showing off his precision multible lane change manuvers. This guy was clearly a menace! I have to wonder how this display was percieved by other drivers. I wonder if it will cause them to behave differently the next time they see a Porche on the highway.

Unfortunately this does happen. You don't buy a Porsche to drive slow, and there are few economic boundries these these days for the stupid.
Here is my give Porsche a bad name story. Me and the wife were heading out of town in her little CRX. Just got on the interstate and were catching up to a slow moving semi. I hit the signal and pulled out to pass. As I pulled tward the rear bumper of the truck I saw a red blur out of the corner of my right eye. I quickly looked over to see a red 930 cab sitting right where I was just seconds ago! This di*k had tried to pass me on the right and cut between me and the truck as I passed it! He slammed on his brakes at the last minute upon realizing that he couldn't make it. So now he climbs on my butt. This particular stretch of interstate is still in town and has a speed limit of 55, I was going 60. As I pass the semi and pull back into the right lane this bozo pulls up beside me, gives me the finger and paces my car. I looked over at my horrified wife and told her this was about to end quickly for Mr. Fancycar. I then looked him in the eye and pulled over into his lane pushing him slowly onto the shoulder. He pushed back slightly before realizing that I was very willing to sctatch up my wifes 10 year old Honda to prove my point. His turbo kicked in and he was gone in a flash. You will NEVER win a road rage match in a vehicle you prize, so don't even try.

I know what you guys are talking about. Last night I was racing my white GT1 at the Cote D'Azure when this idiot in another
GT1 comes screaming up behind me, slams into my right front, wrecks the suspension and keeps on going. Well, after that I could barely steer the thing. It's gonna cost me a bundle in repairs. I was pissed. Internet racing is not for the faint of heart. ![]() Bruce Herrmann |

Yeah, we got them around here to.......I am not going to try and isolate Boxster drivers, because I was a 944 driver (water pumper) for 12 years before I went to air cooled again, but I get the impression that a good number of Boxster drivers are first time Porsche owners. My buddy is a senior banker and he can attest to the processing of many dozens of loan applications for new Boxsters that go to first time Porsche owners. He always asks the question. Perhaps, some of these folks take the Porsche reputation of performance and speed too seriously and drive these cars with an attitude! On the other hand, I see drivers who are courteous and safe behind the wheel of Boxsters as well.
Hey, I drive a 1973 T and occasionally, when one of those @#$&% rice burners decked out like a christmas tree stays on my tail like a dog in heat, I have two options; let him play his game til he is bored or show him what a Porsche can do. We are all abit crazy behind the wheel sometimes! Drive safe Bob |

Stray,
My mistake on the spelling, Thanks for pointing it out. By the way I did not intend to criticize the Boxster at all, I really like the car. I was just questioning the talent behind the wheel and what impression he made on other drivers on the road. |

Bruce, my heart goes out to you. Especially while racing at the Cote D'Azure. I had a similarly bad experience when my last girlfriend got so pissed with me she pulled the plug out of the wall. Jeezz....

pretty addictive game Porsche Unleashed, helps calm the "itch" while i'm away from the 914 at home, trying to go through the evo mode without substantially modifying my cars, and no girlfriend to pull the plug out of the wall!

rstoll- You shouldn't have to worry about any of these guys as long as you are Not driving like the people in their stories.
![]() I like to have fun on the highway just as much as the next P-car owner, but within limits! Flying through heavy traffic or overtaking people on a crowded highway while doing 40+ mph above their speed is just dangerous and stupid. Save that stuff for when there is very little traffic, be reasonable, and/or simply take it to the track! ![]() -T

My favorite move is to let people into the left lane who are trying to pass a slower vehicle in the right lane when the traffic won't let them in. I just takes a moment or two and having driven a truck I know how frustrating being trapped in the slow lane is. The vehicle almost always goes right back into the right lane after the passing move. Then when I pass I often get a friendly wave or toot of the air horn. Just my efforts to improve the impression of Porsche drivers.

I've got a buddy who recently sold his '99 Vette. Every day I thank God this guy didn't own a 911.
Some of you might remember my story from a while back where we filmed the car doing a 0-175mph run in under 60 seconds. That little episode was done on an empty highway where you could see in both directions for miles. That was the only way I would agree to ride along as the camera man. I have had the misfortune of being his passenger on 2-lane highways where he regularly drove anywhere from 100-150mph in traffic. Not EVEN my style. We have had a few words on the subject, so I don't ride shotgun very often. Anyway, this is the same behavior I witnessed with Mr. Fancycar and his red 930 cab. Dude must have been doing way over 100mph when he tried to pass me on the inside. I never saw him coming. That is the real danger in missmatched speeds. Every time my 'vette buddy would bump it up over 100 I'd ask him just what he planned to do when someone, who doesn't see him blasting up on them at 66 ft/sec faster than they are going, decides to step out and pass. He never had a good answer. I did. There wouldn't be enough of this car left to put in a paper bag. Slow the hell down.
