Does anyone have any photos of late 930 teatray tails compared to M491 teatray tails? I've read they're different. Maybe even between AC and non-AC...

Finally got my hands on this wing.
I will post more detailed pics when I get a chance, it appears to be all FG and no sign of any numbers in the usual spots.

One thing I have noticed is a green colour appearing under the white paint.
Is this normal for FG or was this wing painted in this unusual green colour at some stage and maybe used on a "special" car in the past?

That looks like a reproduction tail since the Turbo AC tails didn't have the support brace that went across the opening since the original tails had fan ducting where the brace in your photo is.

Does anyone have any intel on the fiberglass tail pictured below, please? I picked one up at the Anaheim swap-meet with the intention of bonding it to a steel decklid and would love to know the origins. It's a very sturdy piece and appears to fit a factory decklid very nicely. It has studs glassed into the base, so I guess it was intended to just be bolted to the decklid. I assume it's an aftermarket part? The profile of the tail and lip is a very nice replica of the factory Carrera/Weissach tail - obviously the rubber is now rendered in fiberglass. Thanks!

I recently acquired a tail from EASY in Emeryville, CA (that had been lying around for many years because it had been damaged by a rear hit) for my Carrera 3.0 RS clone project. It has a p/n 930 512 010 00 with no indent for the wiper motor, but it also has license plate cutouts that seem to be stamped, not cut by hand. Could this tail have been made using left over '73 frames with license plate cutouts...in MY74?

Does anyone have period documentation showing the p/n for the 3.0 RS tails? Later documents show the 3.0 RS tail having a 911 rather than 930 p/n, but many parts on the 3.0 RS used the 930 numbers. There are period pics showing both non-small-grill tails like the C3.0 and 75 2.7 Carrera used (which have a 911 p/n), as well as many with the small grill which would have had a 930 p/n. Many more of the restored 3.0 RSs have the small grill.

Does anybody know when the first use of the 930 512 010 00 p/n began? The early turbo prototype appeared at the Paris show in Oct. 74, so most likely a 930 p/n tail would have been used by then.

If this tail had been used on a pre 74 long hood 911 the license plate light cutouts could have been done by a very skilled body man, and the lights could have been removed later as there were no license lights on the tail as acquired. It has some rust issues and the damage from the hit, but it appears to be repairable. I may cover the cut-outs with small plates, but will not try to cover them with bondo.

Anyone have a decent rubber lip for this style tail? I think I prefer this li as opposed to the later style on my 930. Hmm, wont be correct but who cares!

The tail is at the body shop now so can't take more pics for now...will post later showing better how the latch bar is glassed into the tail. Here is one Jim at EASY took, but still not enough detail on the latch bar attachment. It does show the damage from the hit...which I was able to remove somewhat before taking to the body shop.

It just occurred to me that a pre 74 frame would have had a 911 number stamped on it somewhere. Anyone know where the pre 74 lids had a number stamped...and what the number was?

I thought the prototype was first shown in 74...so this keeps the possibility open that the frame on my lid was left over from the pre 74 MY.

But maybe I am just being a little overboard with the possible scenarios.:rolleyes:

Here are some pics of the 930 prototype that was shown in fall 73 at Frankfort and Paris shows, plus some of the car at an unknown location. The latter pic clearly shows the car without the small grill, but the Paris show pic seems to show it with the small grill, but not sure. The restored car clearly has the small grill tail on it.

This car, although built on a 73S chassis was essentially the same body work as the IROC (also 3.0 RS) cars that began racing in fall of 73, except the IROC cars shipped with ducktails but raced with all wide FG tails. The prototype 930 and 74 3.0 RS would have been the first cars with this type of tail with a rubber lip, although the 74 MY Euro Carreras also used these at some point I think.

Hello.

I have a whale tail with part number 911.512.010.07 + triangle + K. It is a metal frame with rear wiper indentation. The part number is located on the centre frame where the lock is attached. It is SINGLE grille !

I'm prepared to sell it. It is in good condiition, some surface rust, nothing serious. Located in Belgium / Europe.

Here is a shot of the underside of the latch brace attachment. These were attached in many different ways it appears.

Also shown is a ducktail from a factory US 74 Carrera that has license cutouts plugged with small plates attached with screws. This tail was made near the end of the MY run of US Carreras (0524), which would indicate that the factory was using up old stock of steel frames from the pre 74 long hoods well into the 74 MY. So it is possible that my red whale tail cutouts were done by the factory from 'left over long hood frames'. I will make plates to fit under the cutouts like the factory did.

I would run the one without a/c as there was no a/c condenser up near the second grill unless it's the larger second grill. I don't think there is a problem running without the protection shield but you may as well buy one as they are only about $200

How can you tell it was made near the end of the US Carrera run? US Carrerra's never had the large or small second grills as far as I know.
The fiberglass work certainly looks factory. Is the second grill the same size as the factory unit? The cutout doesn't appear to have the correct hole layout to mount the second grill.
Is the support for the center bracket spot welded?

The 74 Carrera has a DUCKTAIL not a whale tail...my point was that since the factory was using pre 74 steel frames with cutouts for the ducktails, they could have used them for my whale tail. The pic is from US Carrera 911 440 0524, which is the 5th from the last US Carrera coupe built...later in the model year.

The pic of the latch support is of my RED whale tail shown in the other pic...it's just a lousy color reproduction...not sure why.

So you are referring to the tail on the white car.
On that picture of your latch support, it's a pretty good shot of the second grill backside but I'm not seeing all the holes for the grill. The fiberglass work looks factory. Can you see if the unusual support bracket is spot welded?

Thanks bob, I think that part may be NLA, so will keep a lookout. I see that the 3rd part number is still available so may try this one.
