Yes - that would be awesome. He was able to tell quite a bit about it, like vintage, and whether it was a mid or rear model.

The TV show "Chasing Classic Cars" had the episode of the 1957 356A Carrera GS GT with a crated and disassembled 4-cam yesterday. I enjoyed watching the old mechanic opening up those crates like they were Christmas presents.
I'm sure everyone here has already seen the episode, but I still like watching the reruns.

Angela,
Did Grady pass? Have not been on the boards for a while... He was going to come down for a visit several years ago then had some health issues and have not heard from him for a while... So sorry to hear this... Joe A

Angela, thank you so much for bringing this thread back. It's a chance for newbies like me to see what an amazing man Grady was in so many different respects. I stayed up most of last night reading the whole thread. Wow!

Someone had mentioned this thread in his memorial (see top of page on Pelican - Colorado plates). I had not read the thread previously. Sat down and after reading it, thought it deserved a bump because this epitomizes Grady Clay. Class act and a gentleman in the finest sense of the word.

Anytime I came across a thread Mr. Clay responded to, I would read his every word. His wisdom lives on inside the Pelican forums.

I was telling my engineer about this story today and just had to log on and search for it. I think it deserves a 'bump', once again to keep the memory of Grady Clay going.
It is a great story which I hope newcomers enjoy as much as us oldies regards Ben

Wow. I just read through this entire thread. I hope the kids had money for college after all.
I am trying to convince my daughter to let me finish restoring her 1964 VW Type 261 with the double cargo doors, so my grandson can have some cash for college. By the way, I have seen Rometch cars at VW shows. All were VW powered. I have also seen the 4 cam engines, Back then, I first thought it was a sophisticated 36 HP VW engine! I have also worked on Okrasa engines back in the day. The stuff spoken of in this thread is rare, and was extremely sophisticated for its day. Quite the trip down memory lane.

Grady invited me along to Jackson Hole, probably because he was using my truck. Just kidding! I know he really wanted me there too. My schedule wouldn't permit it though. Looking back on it, I should have rearranged so I could go.

I think about Grady just about every day. I have stopped grabbing the phone to call him though, which is kinda sad.

Just wanted to bump what is imo the uncontested best forum thread to exist. I look it up and read it about once a year. RIP to Grady.
