Wow, quite a read. I am glad all of this found a good home instead of showing up on ebay. It would be fun just to be involved, and just goes to show you never know what is going to show up.

@Grady- You knew my old man pretty well, Larry Skoglund up in MN. I'll post a pic of his old carrera speedster and carerra 2 roadster, which i am sure you knew, but they are fun pics... I also worked with Jim McMillan over at carquip as well who knew you, as he has a 550 and a lemans 356 carrera coupe (which i think you were involved in both, or a trade, or something?). Its good to hear you are still around and involved, and sorry i never got to meet you when i was out there.

Anyway, very good read, and again I am so glad it is getting handled well.

As I recall this is the infamous ‘Carrera Speedster engine rebuild’ in a Utah State Park on the way to the Monterrey Parade in 1973.

No dobt...those that tell to live the story are lucky.....we don't want to send the wrong message of what is acceptable in any case....regardless of "who" is under the car.

Race teams bring it behind the pit wall or crawl under the car on air-jacks in the pits, etc, etc.....they won't risk their lives. Maybe *some* forms of racing do this.....but then let Darwin prevail !

Hey Guys- No one is condoning anything. Getting under a car with no stands is dumb, yes. But the wheels were still on, and it was at the track (magnesium a/r's on it). Lets not get into an argument on this, its just an old picture. Most of us here are adults and know its stupid, but alot of us have done it in at the track, in a hurry, or emergency, whatever. Its not smart, end of story. You probably wouldnt jack a carrera with original paint like that anymore i suppose, but it was awhile ago.


@Grady: Yeah, i think that probably was your 911 (not sure), it sure looks like colorado though, arapahoe forest?. On the way to a parade maybe (detour/seattle? Whats the year on the plate?) ? I will ask though. The old man has many many pictures, probably alot with you in them as well- probably should scan them all someday (they are all slides). I only have a few that he did for the 50th anniversary of the nordstern PCA region a year or two ago, and a coupel for when Gunther Lange passed away last year ( I think you knew him, or of him at least- he had abarth #1 for awhile, plus a few 4 cam coupes and the 1970 monte carlo 911 ST, 914/6 gt, etc etc). I dont think the speedster pic was when it blew up, maybe just fouled plugs or was leaking or something. I have a pic with the engine half apart in the parking lot (california?) when it spun the roller crank, i will see if i can find it.

Eric- Good to hear from you. I had the pleasure of riding in the C2 roadster around Donnybrooke in Brainerd at speed, with your dad driving. He was one of my mentors in the '60s at the Nord Stern weekends up there.
I'll have to try to scan some of my pics. I have several of the C2, my 356SC, and
many other local hotrods.
I heard that Larry was involved in the rebuild of one of my former 547/2 fourcams for
the guy that became the next caretaker of #0123. Do you know if that's true?

I'm guessing he would have had just the engine. I believe the chassis would have been
apart for restoration at a different shop. (not my Spyder in the pic) Mike
