A few more Turbo Questions

Boys,

I'm almost ready to drive the '70 3.3 Turbo Hybrid. I've got a few plumbing questions:

1. Can someone post a CIS diagram for a 79 Turbo ? I have the one from Panorama but there are a few differences.

2. The Turbo utilizes 2 fuel pumps. Do both pumps push gas from the tank to the CIS ? I have the line out from the tank connected to the front pump, pushing fuel to the rear of the vehicle. The rear pump then receives the fuel and forwards to the accumulator. Does this seem right ? Thanks guys.

You are right. First pump is by the tank, pushes fuel to the rear pump, which then pushes it to the accum.

Pump layout is as per stock, are you using 930 pumps with the 1bar fuel cut off?

I've got the CIS map but no way to post it. Check out the pelican diagrams.

What's with the stock muffler? This is hi-po stuff baby - uncork that thing and let the fireballs fly!

since you have the relatively easy access you should at least gut the muffler and vent that wastegate to the atmosphere rather than dumping into the muffler.

Give me the details for waht you're recommending. I have no emissions here in FL. I own an 81 930 with B&B and it's too loud for my taste. Detail your suggestions as I am very interested. Thank you.

Example: I have a 77 930 with a euro exhaust.The wastegate simply has a short length of tube maybe 6" long with its own little stubby muffler.However someone on this bord made a short exhaust tube using the factory flange that attached to the waste gate... very simple. It looks like you could cut the the wastegate tube where it enters the muffler(weld up the hole) and shorten the existing wastegate tube (utilizing the factory wastegate exaust tube). It would'nt cost you anything! (This is all assuming you have a mig or tig to weld up the stainless muffler)

As for gutting the muffler, I believe there is fiberglass packing in there (others can confirm), which really should go IMHO. You'll find that the car is entirely too quiet(factory muffler). Now that I'm thinking about it I suppose you could perform this while the muffler is still on the car! When you are finished reweld the section you cut from the muffler back on. From the posts I've read, I forget where maybe here or turbo club, some feel the sound from a gutted turbo muffler is "just right". This is probably from the thickness of the sheetmetal (reduces resonance).

Look close and you will see the wastegate pipe exiting the left rear pointing straight down. You can order them from GHL.
(ewwww, this is before i fixed the rear valance!! )

Here is one of my favorites. I don't have many pictures on disc that I can upload right now, I'll take more as the engine transplant grows nearer.

As for your muffler situation, there aren't many low dollar alternatives for a good sounding not-too-loud muffler.
First off, as we all have stated, get the wastegate its own tailpaipe. Then you can concentrate on muffler issues. As you know, the stocker is very heavy - all in the wrong place.
What I plan to do is buy a 3" single in dual outlet Borla like what is stock on 4th generation F-bodies (Camero/Firebird). This should sound good, if not it won't cost too much to find out.

If you're running any mods at all you need to open that exhaust up! What exhaust do you have? Stock Euro, US, aftermarket?
