86 wiring help
My windows wouldn't work yesterday. I traced it down to no power to the fuse (first one on the fuse block nearest the rear of the car). I can put power to that point and they work fine.
My wiring diagram says that black wire comes from the "power window control unit".. Anyone know where that unit is ? Looks like a relay box in the diagram

This came up before - seems the relay got moved between 86 and 87 - not sure but I think it may be behind the tachometer. My Bentley wasn't clear. I see the schematic reference to the PWCU, but it doesn't give the location or even list it. It does call out the Power Widow relay twice based on year.
As I mentioned, it came up before because someone else had an issue with an 86 and it was setup like an 87 - a little confusing. Maybe Gerry will chime in.

Todd, Here's what I think. The power window control unit and the power window relay are the same component, as there is only one relay in the CKT. Many times when a relay contains any solid state devices, it is designated a "control unit" Additionally, fuse #1 get's the +12V from the relay. I would be looking for +12V @ pins 7 & 2. Pin #7 most probably feeds the CKT, and pin #2 is on the relay armature/contact which feeds the window switches. Check all of the above prior to purchasing a new relay, as too often, P-car owners buy non-refundable unneeded electrical parts. There is one on eBay. Item #270368115573 ![]() Here is the location of the power window relay. ![]() If all of the above fails, pm me. Good luck, Gerry
