RSR rear bumper backdate problem
I'm installing a early RSR bumper on my SC. I have all the things removed and out of they way to fit the bumper into location, but I have a problem. The bumper doesn't line up with the fenders. It seems to be too long or something. Here is some pics of the bumper partially installed on the car. I don't know if I'm missing something, or I need to seriously mod the bumper or need a new bumper. Please help. Thanks.

Looks like the bumper is for 11" flares you have what appear to be 9" Turbo flares.

Exactly....your bumper is for larger RSR or turbo flares.
You need an RS rear bumper.....not RSR.

My car has the turbo flares. Thats why I can't figure out what the problem is. Are RSR rear flares wider than turbo flares? I thought they were the same...

I've seen theses setups with 3 pieces. Do they have wider outside to fit turbo flares?

There are RS 2.7 flares (8inch flares):
![]() RSR 2.8/ RS 3.0 flares (11inch flares): ![]() and RSR 3.0 flares (14 inch flares with the vents): ![]() Flares are rated by the wheel size they can fit within. Sometimes camber and alignment can squeeze more wheel and tire into smaller flares.

So, what you are saying, that I seem to. Have bought RSR 3.0 flares and not the RSR that I would require. Nice. Hmmm, should I, could I modify this bumper to work. You know, a little cut and paste. Great pics by the way, now it makes sense...

Also depends on how the flares were attached.
Usually, the flares and bumper are installed together, such that "minor" adjustments can be made to make the flares and bumper line up correctly. Yours appear to need more than "minor" adjustments. Turbo flares and 73 2.8 RSR flares are basically the same width....excepting some differences in the profile. 74 3.0 RSR flares are substantially wider. Your flares do look like turbo flares. So if the bumper you have is too wide (which certainly looks the case)....you should look for a better fitting "true" RSR bumper. Your bumper looks like a lemming....oddball part. The rear bumper for the wider 74 3.0 RSR looks completely different.

I have 11" RSR flares which are 930 turbo size, perhaps your bumper is for a 14"RSR.
I bought all of my parts from rennspeed. My flares look like yours. ![]() |

Yes, the RS 3.0 had wider flares than the Carrera RS 2.7. It used the 2.8 RSR width flares with 9 and 11 inch wheels. The RSR 3.0 had the 14 inch rear wheels with yet wider flares with vents.
I think the OP has the RSR 3.0 bumper but Turbo flares (width of RS 3.0)

When you get the smaller bumper, it will likely need some fitting. If it were me, considering selling what you have, shipping, buying a new one, shipping, fitting and all else, I'd start cutting on that one.
Fiberglass is easy to cut and mend. There are a lot of treatises here and on many other forums. PM me for any specific advice. --Milt |
