Dual jacking my 911...

Yes I have searched, no didn't find it

Ok, my question: is it a good idea to use 2 floor jacks at the same time to lift the car, using the jack receivers in the rockers ?

I want to get both rear wheels in the air, at the same time while not having to use the engine (used to do it like that, loved it but people @pelican scared me so I'm rather save than sorry)

I lift ~ 10" at a time, side to side while raising 12ton jack stands under the torsion bar extensions - I don't like pushing up on the engine case either.

I tried the side-to-side method while using jackstands, but it scared the hell out of me (yes, natural born pussy).

I did do the side-to-side method while using 2 floor jacks yesterday, 10 cm/4 inches at a time (and put it on jackstands afterwards) and it went quite well. I'm just a bit scared that I might kill my car's unibody or something (cfr the pussy thing).

Well no, because it's 1000$ ?

If the 2-jack-thing gets the Pelican Seal of Approval, I'll be happy to do it that way 'till my next birthday (that's when I'll be getting my lift, I just decided )

Have owned my 84 Targa for over ten years. Have lifted using the engine for all jacking up of the rear. Get a hockey puck, and use the engine.

But then again, this is just my opinion.

Actually, I'll quit this method as soon as I see a photo of jack damage on an engine.

I got it 2 weeks ago and love it. It will pay for itself in no time (best line to use on the wife...)

Would you want the entire car balancing on two tiny points in the center while it is moving up? Bad idea.
On a side note: I got scared by folks here saying jacking under the motor is bad until I realized that I have never heard a first person testimony of something bad happening because of it! I would say that the great majority of folks here use the engine. My personal preference is to use a 5" block of 2-4 wood. It crushes enough to not put stress on any one point on the engine. Been doing it that way for 5 years with no problemo.

Punched hole in block, any easy fix?

Granted, above said it was from a jackstand, but it could have just as easily happened from a slipped jack.....

What year is your car? Does it have rear jack points?

I think it has...

Actually, when using the 2 jack receivers the front wheels stay on the ground. It wasn't as instable as it sounds. But I agree, jacking under the engine works great!

Me, personally, I jack each side in smallish lifts.

One or 2 jacks is not as important as not jacking up one side too far before jacking up the other side. I broke a sway bar mount doing this, I was jacking one side up pretty far and heard a noise, did not pay much attention at that time but later learned that the sway bar mount had snapped. It was probably already weak but it broke while jacking.

I'm liking the looks of the scissor type lift...
HEY JJ 911sc what type of lift is it that you bought? I would appreciate any info you could post, wherer to buy, $$$$, brand

Maybe you guys won't like this but I made a cross bar that I use on my jack. Goes underneath the swing arms and I can jack the whole back of car to the height I want. So far so good.

this guy likes that assuming no damage to swing arms/etc. , I thought of making something like that but... never did it. Good idea just need a few good pieces of steel and maybe some welding to bolting something together. What cross piece did you use.. e.g. 2" x 2" square thick wall tubing? Got a picture?

I use two jacks at the front, single jack at the rear. Never go side to side unless I'm raising the car higher than the jack can reach, such as with an engine drop.

Well

I did the dual-jack thing and it went great. Putting the car back down was trickier because while the back comes down, it also shifts rearwards relative to the jacks and this causes them to slide a bit.

Next time i'll put them parallel to the car (more or less).

It has been a good day: bled my brakes (and they work fine) + found a way to jack the car without having to use the engine (never felt 100% good about that)

Me too. I wonder if there is even a single, verified story of a 911 engine being damaged this way.

The hose/cylinders made up-here and the "Baldor" motor/pump made in the good old USA.

Up here it end-up cheaper ($1800) than the BendPack with a better warranty (2 year parts/5 years construction).

They also have a US shipping depot.

The Lift Super Store Check under promotion

Could not live without...

If you are contacting them, do mentioned that you heard it from the Porsche Pelican Site, I'm not getting anything but I mentioned to them that I would do a post (search hemi roadrunner) and you might get a break.
