Hood Crest - Broken Studs - Repair or Replace?
I ended up breaking off both studs on the back of my hood crest when stripping my car for paint. Is it worth sending it to have new threaded studs brazed on? If so does anyone know of someone that does this kind of repair?

if it's not an orange bar, hardly worth the trouble. just get your bodyshop to use some 3M double-sided tape on it and stick it on.

on an 86 911, it is most likely not an orange bar.
Don't stick it on, buy a new one, they're cheap enough. And on a repaint, a new badge looks real nice.

Try a jeweler, might be real cheap. I am asking a jewler to fix a couple of accelerator pump nozzles from my Zenith, he says it will only be about 10-15 bucks ( Canadian )
Thanks, Rick |

Thanks for the advice guys. A close friend of mine is a jeweler so I'll try that route first. If that doesn't work out I'll buy a new one.

I had Allan Heywood restore my Orange bar crest for my 73 and he repaired the one broken stud. I agree with most before me, buy a new crest & seal to go with the new paint. If it's an Orang bar crest, I'd restore that one.

A "nice" condition hood crest will look shabby on top of new paint.

Mine is in near perfect shape which is why I wanted to re-use it. But I agree that it is probably best to just buy a new one.

Then, when harmonic vibration fractures the JB or a bad bond breaks off, it will be fun to see the badge skipping across the new paint at 75mph.

You can get new ones all day long that are correct. Now if it was an original steel wings from an Aston Martin DB4 or a period Maserati, that would be different.
