What weather stipping do I have to replace to get rid of the wind noise in my coupe

It has gotten really noisy. I have replaced the window channels and sunroof seals. What else is there?

more than likely, you need to adjust the window frame and/or door latch.

check condition of front hood seal, and door seals then. Maybe there is a missing fresh air duct in the front compartment.

Door seals make a HUUUUUGE difference if they are original or in bad shape.

I've replaced every seal associated with the driver's door but still have some wind noise at speed. I've given up chasing it. It's part of the charm now.

I have all of the factory door plugs in place as well.

The mirrors are known to be noise makers. Fold them in and take a short drive to see the difference.


While your door latch may be in good shape, pulling the door in a bit more will help it seal better.

I get a lot of noise that sounds like its from the wind going over the windshield at the edges. New door seals helped some noise but still really annoyed by noise from windshield

As mentioned the door seals are a big one, our hosts carry them, they'll dress up your car, one P/N fits both sides. A fresh "factory" windshield gasket will make a giant difference as well. I cleaned out the gasket channel of all the previous sealant that shouldn't have been there anyway. Now the gasket lies/lays tight against the sheet metal and I have noticeably less wind noise in the cabin.

You have to go after each and every piece of this, and still it won't be perfect... but we try!

While your hearing it, just put your finger around where you think the air is coming in. You'll be able to tell where you need to tighten it up.
As you press on different areas where you think the air is coming in, the pressure from your finger will either change the sound or stop the noise.

I put new door seals in my car and it did make a difference but there is one area by the 'wind wing' that air still gets in. If I press my finger against the seal in that area, it stops. I did notice that when I took the old seal out, there were little shims that I guess helped make the fit tighter.

I didn't put any shims back in, and that is why it probably makes noise.
The shims didn't look like anything professional. Just little slivers of wood.

Remember these cars are handmade and there are lots of little tweaks that are necessary.

There could be an "advanced class" probably taught in school on adjusting the door, window glass, window frame, and door latch.

I would suggest that properly adjusted doors and window frames will, when combined with new door seals, almost completely eliminate wind noise. When you drive a time capsule 911, you see what I mean.

I've thought about taking my 911 to a body shop simply to have the doors and window frame adjusted. But I'm afraid of the look I'd get when I explain that's all I want done.

Try driving a vent window '68 with dry rotted rubber. Less noise with vent windows slightly cracked open than when totally shut!

Face it, a 911 is not a new BMW in NVH development!
