My '84 targa is about 2800lbs with a full tank, not including me. I've given up on this weight reduction shtick... I can keep up with any of the newer NA 911s just fine on the street.

Well I took the spare tiire and jack out, weighed them - 38 pounds. So I took them out. If I go on a longer drive, i'll pop them back in. But don't need them for around town I guess.

Most scales like those at a landscape company don't need to show an accurate actual weight, just be accurate between two readings, drive the empty truck on, drive the full truck on, difference is the weight of the load. If you want an accurate weight you need to get your car weighed on a set of corner scales.
My 86 with a 96 3.6, fiberglass front and rear bumpers, sun roof bits removed, all the other stock stuff still in and roll bar added weighed 2807lbs when corner balanced, with a tank of gas.

My SC weighs 2720 without A/C. I expected a couple of hundred less. It does have a nice sound/nav/bluetooth system, but that can't weigh much.

At times it amazes me when people say..."especially with my fiberglass parts". Lessee.... steel panels maybe 3 mm thick vs fiberglass of 1/4"-1/2" thickness, depending upon where measuresd and what the pieces are. Early Corvettes weren't exactly lightweight either. This is not see-thru "race" fiberglass you have there. Same with aluminim and steel rim wheels. Cast Aluminum is awfully thick compared to a pressed structural steel wheel.
Gotta look at all aspects of "weight". We spoke seats for a moment. My 85 stock power seats weigh an incredible 55 lbs each. 110 lbs for a set. Two shell-type buckets might weigh 14 lbs each for a nice total weight savings of 82 lbs. Steely spare with collapsable spare is pretty weighty too.....

That's darn light IMO. My Euro spec '76 Ferrari 308 is 2900lbs with a small amount of fuel. Short of removing a/c equipment and using lightweight seats, I can't see how to shave down a ton more weight. I have no idea how on earth Michelotto got these things down to 2300lbs let alone the k lbs you Porsche guys see regularly! Amazing

The motor and cables really don't weigh much, it's the sub-roof and panel that is the big weight. Cut that out and bond in a CF panel and it's a worthwhile savings.

Of course....when the pieces are roughly the same thickness in steel and glass....notice I said.." depending upon where measured and what the pieces are" I doubt most replacement 'glass body parts for street use are made to original steel thickness, perhaps other than hood and deck lids.

Is it not fair to say that many should concentrate on their driver skills before trying to lose weight to make them faster. I used to race bikes and many were so preoccupied with having the lightest of equipment and ignored a lack of conering ability or correct gearing or the extra 5 pounds they had from eating too much |

It's really hard to look cool when your sitting at a traffic light and you have sweat pouring down your forhead.

I seem to remember 40 something pounds for the sunrood, the panel and associated hardware.
it's really not the weight so much as it is the location - High and can have a bigger influence on the CG
