WTF!? I finally weighed my 79 sc and WHAT a PIG!

For some reason I thought my car weighed quite little. Like I always looked at her as a nice athletically built girl with some nice "B"-Cups maybe, but holy smokes, I weighed the old girl today and she is a COW!

I weighed her at a landscaping supply place. She just got filled up, and I was behind the wheel. 2920 POUNDS!!!

I calculate a gallon of gas at 6.2 pounds. 21 gallons. so 130 pounds in gas. I'm 170. so there is 300 pounds. My car's empty weight is 2620. Seems kind of a lard ass yeah? Especially with all teh fg parts now.

Opinions??? How much can I gain by changing these seats out? It does still have the wheel in the front, but I like that extra weight up there. maybe I should just take it out. Go to a lighter batter too. That shouldget her down to 2570 or so dry right? If I take off the AC compressor another 30 pounds... maybe get her all the way down to about 2540. so If I just keep her always half full of gas, ...

That seems high. My SC was just over 2500 without any FG.

Sparco torino seats but roll bar
Center console
Rear seat backs taken out.
A/C removed
SSI and dansk sport

That was about the only weight saving measures. Even kept the big ol' battery.

Yeah, thats what I thought. I still have the A/C so... but I could have sworn that by removing the BIG ASS bumberettes and bumpers and shocks and all that... but I have stock seats, rear too, and so maybe thats something I shuld look to update. But my little 6 year old daughter LOVES to ride around in it. so I'll just have to see... Thanks for the info though

Maybe it's the altitude up here. The thinner air makes the car weigh more.

The scale is fixed at the landscaping company. Charge customers for more, deliver less...

My car is stripped, FG bumpers, no AC, and weighs 2500 with 1/3 tank of gas and the spare in place. Two Kirkey RR seats, full cage, and harnesses/net. It would weigh close to 2400 without the spare and cage.

IIRC those wheels on your car weigh a ton.. may add over 50lb vs. mine or Fuchs.

I pulled out my carpet and sound dampening material from my 72 and put it in a box. Yesterday, I went to move the box and ripped the cardboard trying to pick it up. That's some heavy stuff. When I put it all back together, I'm pretty certain those heavy blankets of tar will stay in the ripped box.

Those 17 inches are pretty heavy, the 16 inch fuch represent the best combination of weigh on track, i am using that 17 inch 993 cup wheels with spacers on the road, yes they do affect performance by quite a bit.

My 964 weighs less, 2800# with 1/2 tank and most of the A/C still in....something is definitely wrong with the scale there....I hope..

I don't know how everyone else gets away weighing so little. Thanks for reminding me that I'm a lard ass. No way I'm going to ever weigh my car too.

I went down the path of pulling every little thing out of my Carrera...what you end up with is something that is maybe a bit quicker in the butt dyno but a fair bit noisier, hotter, and less comfortable on the whole. Unless you're doing a dedicated DE car with limited street use, or a flat out track car, just leave it alone. I can't stand driving mine to work when its hot because there is no A/C and no cats on the exhaust; you show up hot and stinky at the office. Yuk.
