New Danske pan, do i need to grind galvanize off?

Got me new Danske galvanized front suspension pan in. When i start to mig this thing in do i need to grind off the galvanized coating on the new pan where i am going to plug weld? Or will it plug weld just fine thrue the coating?

You can weld trough the coating - set the torch a bit hotter with a bit more wire feed. But, it doesn't weld very well, and the fumes are very toxic.

I ended up grinding most of the zinc coating off prior to welding.

After your first few plug welds, be sure to hit the area with a hammer to see if they took or if they're 'cold' plug welds (in which case, set the welder to settings for a higher gage)
