Passed a 904 on my commute this morning!!

Driving my 911SC in to work in Boulder this morning, I saw this sleek tiny silver shape heading towards me. To my astonishment, it was a 904!! I gave him an enthusiastic thumbs up while he waved back, big grin on face! ...this was Jay Road, east of the Diagonal Hwy, for those familiar with Boulder...

Just thought I'd share!

That's my neck of the woods. I'll have to keep an eye out. I didn't know there was one here in town.

I recently found out a few weeks ago that a guy I know who hangs out at the local airport used to own a 904. Had it for several years.

He now races his Bugatti in historic classes. Great guy.

About 40 years ago I tried to ‘sneak’ my 904 from about 6th & Santa Fe to about Colorado Blvd. & Quincy at 6 AM. There was a huge ‘buzz’ among all the PCA community “…did you see….”

No one can get away driving a 904 un-noticed.

Who is the current ‘sneaker’?

Best,
Grady

The sexiest, most quintessential road going Porsche ever built. I genuinely believe I would go without a testicle to own one!

Here is a Beck being run at NHMS about two weeks ago.

Great to see it driving around town and out on the track as well.

Back in 2004, I saw a silver 356 Carrera GTL once on the 10 fwy hauling ass toward Santa Monica. Not far behind it was a red Ferrari Daytona coupe. Never seen a 904, though it's a helluva spot!

I doubt if I'm the only one who has an opinion on those Fuchs . . .

Back in the mid-70s, I lived in the bay area and the owner of a small Porsche parts store used to drive his black 904 to work several days a week. He had transplanted a 2.7 into it. He was a large-ish fellow and getting in & out wasn't easy. Those things are tiny.

I don't really mind the Fuchs on the replica but I'm not a big fan of the flares. When I saw the article in Excellence a few years back I thought the flares were neat. Then I got to see one in the flesh when we went to Daytona in Jan. and I didn't like it as much. It's just too much on what was a very sleek and sexy car.

Is it just the flares or is it also the distance from the top of the wheel arch to the top of the fender?

It looks like a giant hand grabbed the Beck by the roof and pulled the whole thing up a couple of inches. Awkward.

The Beck 904 does not photograph well - the Genuine Porsche photographs beautifully from almost every angle.

(Having said that I like the Beck Speedster replica)

Grady:

Remember the time you took me for a 904 ride from your shop to the emissions testing lab on East Colfax to meet the Porsche engineers? While we were stopped at a traffic light on Lincoln, a pedestrian asked, "Is that real?" I recall answering, "No, it's just a kit car!"

Don't know anyone in the Boulder area with a real one, but a friend up there often drives his 1927 Bugatti.
